not the color white, but the whole eye has slowly turned white, more like glazed over..Is this old age or what? It has been slowly coming on for the last 2 years.

Cataracts can form in the lens of the eye, causing blindness. It could also be another condition of older dogs called nuclear sclerosis which shows as a white film over the lens but unlike a cataract it is translucent and the dog will have vision. Another diagnosis could be "Pannus" or Chronic Superficial Keratitis in which over time a film develops over the surface of the eye. Numerous other conditions can affect your dogs eyes, particualrly as they age. See your vet for a proper diagnosis.

Hi yes these are usually cateracts & very common in older dogs & I have a 15 year old dog whos losing most of his sight now..However this does not stop them from getting around & although their sight isn't what it once was they can still live a good life...
Only if I thought y dog had no longer got any quality of life would I step in to help him on his way if he was suffering...but the condition can be a slow one & he may maintain some sight till he passes...
No fun in getting old for either man or dog unfortunately...
Regards Jake

sounds like a cataract. (Filming over the retina that causes blindness) Take lab to the vet and he or she will give you further instruction.

Cataracts are common in older dogs. Really not much you can do about it except just love him.

Is it possible that she/he may have cataracts? What has the vet said about her eyes?
