salt , fat , sugar and flour are cheap, actual food value costs. fresh food, is expensive because so much goes to waste, frozen is just as good for most veggies except salad greens and such. free range eggs are certified, so that means the farmer has to prove no poisons of any kind have been used on the ground from which the chickens feed, same with the milk, its all the government regulations they go through to prove it is organic. you dont have to eat organic to eat well, or at least better than mcdonalds.

Because it costs more money to raise free range chickens or grow organic food. You can make a lot more money cramming 1,000 chickens in a coop feeding them cheap food rather than raising 400 free range chickens and feeding them quality food. With the produce, farmers use pesticides so they don't have to worry about insects - it's cost effective. Because you're not using pesticides in organic produce, you have to take care of the plants a lot more.
It's like machine-made vs handmade clothes. A factory can produce a hundred dresses in the time one handmade dress can be made. The workmanship and quality might be better in the handmade dress - but you have to pay for it!

all eggs even free range gimmick eggs are horrendously bad for your heart and vascular ..... good healthy fresh vegetables and fruits cost far less than meats fish and chicken or dairy products
steer clear of these heart rending tragedies whole grains and regular evg. and fruits are cost effective don't need organic if u wash your food and u should even if the sell u organics ..organic spinach is just as likely to carry E-coli as inorganic spinach
peace out wash it first....

Because organic farming is inherently more expensive than conventional farming. Organic farms use manure to fertilize their crops rather than cheaper chemical fertilizers. Some of the procedures that organic farmers use require tending and harvesting by hand, rather than machines.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that it's harder to make food without using pesticides and stuff,

it's a marketing strategy! since the market for junk food is so cut throat they can't put premium price on their products.
