I lived in Australia for 2 years back in 1990, i am so bad with numbers i forgot the year.. sorry. But i never made to the Canberra. Lived in Sydney mostly.

I had heard about it and learnt about it on TV when there was election for Prime Minister there during that time. I thought it was place for Politicians to hangout. The famous land-marks for Politicians there has to be the Government Buildings, etc. for other people the Canberra itself is the landmark!

Good day mate!

hi i am from germany, but ive been to australia a couple of times. Im very sure its canberra, and im guessing the land mark is some type of important building, because to b honest they dont have that many big things... mabe some type og house/building for the government? well anyways, Canberra isnt all that well known, but they chose this, I think its because of this, well they couldnt choose between Melbourne and Sydney so they picked a city in between, and I guess Canberra became the capital like that. At least thats what Ive heard.

I♥ Australia!

Well I'm from Melbourne in Australia. The capital is Canberra which is Aboriginal word for meeting place. Melbourne was the capital prior to Canberra....as per your request it's all from what I remember from High School 11 years ago, cos I didn't study any history afterwards at TAFE(college)...I think Canberra was founded as a capital to stop all the bickering between Melb and Sydney, which are big interstate rivals. It was founded b/ween the 2 with it's own territory -The Australian Capital Territory (very original). The suburbs in Canberra are mostly and possibly all named after early Prime Ministers and Australian statesmen......I think the most famous landmark might be the Parliament House...also I answered because I figure no American is going to know our capital if the majority of their population thought New York was their capital prior to Sept 11, 2001......sorry (-: What else: It's a well designed city via a European architect long ago and has long boulevards etc...It's also Oz's porn capital(so the politicians have something else to do) and obviously has all the Military Colleges and Schools for the armed forces...It's also Oz's rev-head capital with a really good annual car event with burnouts and lots of comps...and the population is: 200,000-300,000...can't remember anything else without looking it up.

Greetings from this part of the world!

Canberra. I've read that in my secondary school geography books. I am from India by the way.

Most people here would go for Sydney as it sounds to be the most famous city. Olympics were held there. Weren't they? Also, it is perhaps, the commercial capital of Australia or something.

Most famous landmark- I don't know. I have heard and seen in pictures that there is a Lotus Temple in Australia too. It is just like the one we have here in New Delhi, only that it is un-blossomed Lotus.

I also know that last night, when Australia beat my country on my own home-soil in ICC Champion Trophy, I felt like killing the kangaroos. But, had to contain my angst like a good sports-fan.

By the way, I think you cricket fans in Australia should change your chant from "Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi oi oi" to something better.

(Um...) Canberra, of course!
The image I associate with Canberra is that tower thing, looks a bit like the Eiffel Tower. No idea what it's called, never been there.

Hi there,

I know it is Canberra. It is situated halfway between Melbourne and Sidney, but I must admit that is all I know about that city.
