as an atheist i think the purpose of living is living till we die and we should not do harm either physically or mentally to any person intentionally.

given that a nihilist believes that the current order is so corupted that it must end at any price I'd say Atheists would not likely be nihilistic here in the US since they have such a good foot hold in the government.

I believe in the morality of humanity.I believe that our purpose is to grow and evolve, as we have always done.I believe that there is more to the universe then we give credit to.I believe that life has a cause but that cause is beyond any of us.I believe that religion has just used the need of people to explain the unexplainable which I believe harms the process of the evolution of humanity.I believe in spiritualism but not in books and invisible friends.I know right from wrong because it is part of the human condition and not because religion tells me right from wrong.
Do I sound nihilistic?

On the contrary. If you want a nihilist, look for someone who believes in the apocalypse or armageddon or 'the end days'. THOSE are the nihilists.

No! Atheists just prefer science and logic to blind faith.
There might be some atheist nihilists out there, but nihilism is in no way synonymous with atheism.

No, we're realistic - and probably value life and all it makes possible far more than any religionist who thinks s/he will live forever (is that why believers are so willing to kill and die in pointless wars?).
If humans do achieve immortality, it will be with science, not religion. And biotechnology is growing exponentially...

no I'm not the obsessive type but I like the words of the Marharishi when visited by the Beatles they asked that same question what is the true meaning of life and he replied
"enjoy yourselves"
peace out and enjoy!

some are some are not. some are Buddhist and some are existentialist.
All Atheism means is no god(s).
This normally agrees with no after life souls, but not always.
Do you know of only one variety of theist, I am sure that if you think about it you will realize there is more than one variety of God believer too.

No, not necessarily. The only thing all atheists have in common is the disbelief in god(s).
