They died. Period.
There is no God, no Heaven, no Hell... What kind of a retarded Master of Time and Space would honestly call himself "I AM"?

Well the earliest religions were probably animistic and probably believed that their spirits went on to some sort of spirit world. Since justice is a major point in every religion and we humans find it extremely important (for good reason) I would think that some would enjoy the spirit world and some would maybe be tortured or lost. This would all depend on how they lived their lives.
If you are asking how people of modern faiths view the destiny of ancient souls then you have to look at what these traditions say now about the ancient peoples and their predicaments in regards to the afterlife.
The earliest religion still in existence is Hinduism, which teaches reincarnation. You keep being reborn here until you have reached moksha or liberation from the cycle of life. Based on your actions in your previous life(s) you would return either in a better situation, like a rich priest, or a worse situation, like say an ant. The very worst of people can be reborn into one of 11 'hells' in Hinduism. These are only temporary though and are only for those with really bad karma. They help you burn that bad karma away and then you get reborn again as a normal animal or human.
In Christianity, the men who died before the coming of the Messiah were sent to Hades. Because the Messiah had not died for their sins yet, they could not enter into heaven, but because they did believe in the Messiah and were saved by their beliefs they would obviously not be sent to hell. So they stayed in Hades, which was located in hell, but were not tortured or in pain like those in hell. They simply waited for the Messiah, and after Christ died He 'descended into hell' to release these souls to heaven, called the Harrowing of Hell. This took place during the three day period after His death and before His ressurection.
So these are just a few examples of the viewpoints of modern religions regarding the afterlives of ancient peoples.

Remember the rich man and Lazarus? Rich man was in hell and he could look over and see Lazarus in Abraham's Bosom?
This depicts that there is a possibility of two sides of hell a good and a bad side, on the bad side the rich man was suffering while Lazarus was being comforted. Assuming that the believing went to Abraham's bosom and non believers went to the other side I would say that the believers were held in Abraham's bosom until the time that Christ died and ascended.
You can read about Lazarus in Luke chapter 16 and it says that there was a large gulf between the rich man and Lazarus....

Is organized religion really organized? Is there a hell? If you are a bible thumper you should know that you don't go to hell until judgement day. Everyone knows that, even atheists.

Depend upon the believe, if they believe in ONLY ONE GOD. Then GOD will forgive their sins and enter them in paradise. Also, if they say on the day of judgement that no prophet came to them, then GOD will test them there, just to see whether they obey or not. If they obey GOD will enter them in paradise.
Regarding the revelations from ONLY ONE GOD, GOD chosen angel Gabriel through prophets (from first prophet Adam to last prophet Mohammad (PBU them all) including Jesus (PBUH) to deliver the simple message to believe in ONLY ONE GOD in order to achieve the purpose of life. But every time the message got corrupted until GOD sent the final prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to make the religion PURE from CORRUPTION. Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) always tell his companions/scholars to write it down as soon as the revelation from GOD comes via angel Gibriel. On top of that many people don't know HOLY QURAN is the only BOOK that has been memorised from begining till end that was the case during the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) life and after that. Now there are millions of muslim even the four years old memorised the whole QURAN unlike any other book. That's how the Quran is preserved in ORIGINAL form via written record as well as by memorisation.

Yeah, ya' know I always wondered if people before Jesus went to hell since they say if you don't accept Jesus as your saviour, you go to hell. What about all the poor souls who never had the opportunity to meet Jesus? That just doesn't seem fair!
