Jesus said in John 13:34 'A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, AS I HAVE LOVED YOU, that you also love one another'. As can be seen from this verse we have to love others as God loves us. So we must know the love of God before we can love others as God loves us. This we do by first loving God and enjoying and experiencing His love for us. With this knowledge we can love others as God loves us. Also we love God because He first loved us (1 John 4:19) This new commandment replaces the old commandments 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind' (Deut 6:5) and 'love your neighbour as yourself' (Lev 19:18). So the love of God comes first before the love of our fellow men.

God says to love Him above all else. When we follow this first commandment there follows a beautiful transformation in our own heart allowing us to love all of mankind. Love the person and hate the sin. How incredible is that! Our God shows us how to love all mankind. For starters we can pick up the bible and read the book of John..(Thank you Dr.DeLoach)

Love the creature, you will love the Creator. "...one who saves one human being is like the one who has saveth the whole humankind..." is the holy commandment in the scriptures (Qoran). God as such doesn't need our prayers as He is above everything; but He surely will judge us according to what we do to our fellow human beings. Contrary to the modern day theme of 'hate-Islam', its in Islamic teachings that if you don't love others and are not kind don't think of yourself as among the believers. Thus it becomes the duty of every believer to love human beings.

If you don't love God then you can't have true love for your fellow man. Until you know the freeing, saving Love of God you will not love unselfishly.

It is my understanding that once you truly love God, you are then able to truly love your fellow man.

The first commandment is to love God. All else shakes out in its proper place and proper proportion once this is accomplished.
