I have had tinnitus for at least 6-12 months, I have not been to a Dr.
I have a constant, high pitched noise in my left ear.
Is there anything that can be done about this?
I am looking for a realistic assesment, not just someone to tell me "go to a Dr."
I know I need to see a Dr., but is there any real treatment for this condition, or is it hopeless?

You are lucky I have had it for 60 years. From running farm tractors, chain saws. Drag race cars, having someone shoot off a gun near my face. lots of target practice and working in a punch press factory.
If you find a cure email me. mine is in both ears and interferes with hearing some sounds, it drowns them out.
If you keep occupied you don't notice it
There are over 200 medicines that aggravate it, not just one.

Avoid exposure to loud sounds and noises.
Control blood pressure.
Decrease salt intake.
Avoid nerve stimulants such as coffee and colas (caffeine) and tobacco (nicotine).
Reduce anxiety.
Try to stop worrying about the tinnitus. Often times, the more you worry and concentrate on the noise, the louder it will become.
Get adequate rest and avoid fatigue.
Exercise.
Utilize masking noise. Tinnitus is usually more bothersome when the surroundings are quiet, especially when you are in bed. A competing sound such as a ticking clock or a radio may help mask tinnitus. Small hearing aid like devices which generate a competitive sound may help reduce the awareness of the tinnitus.
Biofeedback may help or diminish tinnitus in some patients.
Hearing aids may help some patients with hearing loss and tinnitus. However a trial before purchase is advisable.
Avoid aspirin or aspirin products.

My husband also has tinnitus, and the doctor just diagnosed him with Minear's Disease. Besides that, I wanted to let you know that I read online that drinking colas and eating food with aspartame in it can cause tinnitus. You might want to take a look at what you're eating and cut out anything with aspartame in it. It is kinda scary when you look at the side effects online. Aspartame is in chewing gum and Diet Coke! Also, you might want to cut back on salt. My husband's doctor put him on a salt-free diet and started him on water pills. Good luck!

You can start by getting off of sugar, processed foods and foods with petroleum base dyes, such as M&M's, along with certain sauces, BBQ etc. that may be part of the problem. Keep a log of what foods you eat to pinpoint what acerbates the problem.
Adding zinc and a good mulch-vitamin should help. Chlorella and Spirulina to help remove the toxin buildup in the body. Be a detective for your health. It wouldn't hurt to get off of GMO foods and large Co-op farm raised animals and fish, since they contain so much pesticides, herbicides, and anti-biotics. None of which your body needs.
