Here's what I'm going to make up about the situation:

The woman was a family member of the child. The child could have been there for a visit with the woman. Maybe the woman had supervised visits with the child after, maybe, the child had been taken by the state. Maybe the man was the supervising social worker. The woman had the candy for her own family-member child and since your child was there figured she'd offer him some.

Maybe the child didn't want to leave with the man. Maybe the man didn't despise the kid. Maybe he just wasn't a family member.

Anyway, as long as there's the opportunity to speculate about this situation I figured I throw in my version of what it could have been.

In all serious, you're right. It was odd and unsettling that a stranger would offer your child candy. You should always make sure you see your child at the park in the future (if you go back) or at any park if you go to different ones.

Unfortunately, the police are not able to act on some things, and apparently this was one of those things.

Being a father and in law enforcement, I notice that alot of people these days dont seem to care about asking permission before giving a child candy ar pulling down a blanket on your new baby. It seems like the new times brings out a forget common courtesy rule. I hate when my outgoing child talks to strangers but it really torks me when a stranger approaches my children without even making eye contact with me first. Its just rude to approach someones children with out talking to the parents first.

I suspect this was just a "normal" grandma and her gradbaby or something. I know a lot of elderly people enjoy kids, she probably was trying to be nice. Dunno about the man, maybe the kid just wasn't used to this "uncle" or something. Here's to hoping.

At the same time, it is good you are trying to teach your son these skills. He is still little, so keep trying. He is probably old enough to understand why you shouldn't take candy from strangers, so I would try to explain it. Don't scare him, but help him understand that not all people are nice and you have to be careful.

the police are not always right.....i would keep a eye out for her, and if you see her again, let her know you see her....i hear that women sometimes fronts for the man to get a child.....one never knows for sure..and i say i rather be wrong now than sorry later....

She was probably the neighborhood psycho... I would go to the park and see if you can find her and kill her...
