Is self rising four the same as all purpose?

You can use self-rising flour for your fried chicken, however, all purpose flour and self-rising flour are not the same. Self-rising flour has a leavening agent (like baking powder) in it, and all purpose flour doesn't.

Try using it by rolling the chicken in the seasoned flour really well, dipping it in milk or milk and egg then rolling it in the flour again. The moisture will cause the breading to puff up a bit making a better coating. You can also add bread crumbs to it to add texture..
