So I just boiled milk to make hot cocoa because my microwave gave out. After I boiled I noticed there were some solid stuff in the bottom. (My sauce pan was completely clear before this.) So i ignored it and still made my hot cocoa. After mixing it all together with a cocoa mix I noticed that those solid stuff in my mouth felt like cotton. It felt like eating paper that was submerged in some liquid. I don't know what it was. It was just milk and cocoa mix powder! Can someone explain what happened???

Don't ever boil milk or it will curdle. That is what happened. The next time you make cocoa. warm the milk up to where steam is rising and not boiling.

Good luck,

The milk may have been sour and curdled.

Or you may have overboiled the milk and it burnt to the bottom of the pot. Then, if you stirred it up, it could have just removed some of the burnt or solidified gunk of the bottom.

Or if you overboiled it, it could have made a skin on top as it cooled. So then when you stirred it up the skin may have just clumped up.

Don't worry about it.

But a good cup of cocoa...low temperature until you almost hit the boiling point. Whisk in the powder until it you almost hit the boiling point but not quite and remove from heat.

was there anything in your cocoa besides cocoa? if it was more of a "processed" type of product that already included sugar and stuff, well then maybe there was something in that product caused the weirdness.

acidic liquid must have added to form solid stuff.

you have mention above that there are solid stuff. there must be an acidic liquid such as lemon juice is added to the milk. the protein caseinogen coagulates; that is, the milk clots. the solid formed in the clotting process is called '' curd'' and the liquid, ''whey''

do you know when milk is boiled, the protein coagulate and form a layer of skin at the top. this will cause the milk to overflow if the heat is not lowered, as the hot air and steam push against the layer as they rise.

next time when you want to mix cocoa mix powder with milk. you should use low heat to boil the milk. just before a layer of skin was formed, stir in cocoa mix powder. keep stiring while it is boiled.

When you want to boil milk your supposed to add something special like butter or oil at the bottom,.. or some other suggestions.
There are special pots for melting, boiling, liquidfying... solids and difficult fluids.. it is also used for Fondu without open flame by some people. How it's set up is there is two or three pots to the pot,.. the large one you put water in, the smaller pots that go in the large pot you put what you want to melt or boil in,... then you have the water boil until the stuff on top melts or boils (whichever is desired).

But Boiling Milk tends to turn out bad/wrong no matter what you try.

the things you tasted was a chemical reaction between the mik and cocoa
there are 2 possibilities why this happened.
1st:your milk and cocoa is not compatible, so change it to a matching brand
2nd:you may have put too much milk/ cocoa that it had extra particles and the extra became this solid thing

Milk gets a weird film like wet rice paper when you over heat it, especially if you let it boil, it gets worse and does cause a coating on the bottom of your pot.

you forgot to skim off the top layer of the milk before adding the cocoa

First of all,it may have been sour. Also, you never boil milk, it solidifies it. Always just cook milk til it is steaming or just before it begins to boil. You will know when it is about to boil.
