If your parent has any health concerns and you are to care for them in your own home look into a resident care program offered at most colleges now a days called a RCA program

I know in Calif and Texas a family member can get paid by the state to care for the family member in need or they will pay someone else to come in and care for them a few hours a day and you can get respite. Call your Health and Human Services Dept. I'm taking care of my disabled brother and I'll tell you, there is not a lot of help for the care giver out there. The patient can get tons of programs medical and mental health assistance, but we don't get any. I tell ya what, we need the shrink, we go crazy a lot faster than they do! LOL. Hospice has a guide book for Care Givers that is really good. The best you can do is get the rest you need, call friends and ask them to be on your "back up" list for when you NEED that break you can call them. You will go crazy fast if you don't get respite time. Google care giver support. I found a lot on there, we are on waiting lists for other programs. Good luck!

I am not sure if there are programs in your area, but you might check with your Human Resources Service Dept. in your area.
