Diverticulitis would have shown up on the colonscopy, irritable bowel syndrome would not show up on any test. irritable bowel is basically a cop out for the doctors - they can't find anything else wrong with you so they throw the irritable bowel diagnosis on you. if your symptoms are aggravated by food it could be your stomach, try going back to your GI doctor and asking for a EGD, that will examine your stomach and small intestine. ask your doctor from some nexium or protonix, that might help your stomach and some zelnorm for irritable bowel to see if you have any improvement.

If you are female, check the calendar to see if there is any regularity in the occurrence of your pain. If it is happening right in between your periods, it might be ovulation pain-- "mittelschmerz," it is also called. If you have ruled out all gastrointestinal causes, then ovarian cysts, endometriosis, and a few other "female complaints" may be the culprit. Otherwise, it could be Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which (I don't think) won't show up in a colonoscopy b/c the bowels are empty when the test is performed.
Also, I have been told that some people's organs are very close to the nerves of the abdominal wall, and if they have any irritation, then the nerves react and cause pain just from the organs bumping against them. Might be worth a shot to see a neurologist, if none of the other stuff above pertains to your situation. You may just ave a raw nerve in there causing you mischief.
Good luck, and I hope to heaven that this helps you... That's a long time to be in pain without relief or explanation.

Have your gastro-intestinal doctor check for gastroparesis. This is a condition that does not allow your stomach to contract and extract naturally due to a pacemaker in your stomache. If this pacemaker slows down, just like in the heart, you can end up not digesting food to the lower half of your stomache where the acid breaks food down. A Nuclear medicine test called Gastric Stomache Emptying Test can have this procedure done. When you eat food if the food is not digesting your left side of your upper stomache will be in a lot of pain so get this checked out.

It sounds like something my mother had once. I don't remember exactly what its called but its an infection in your intestines. Its like your intestines have little pockets in them and if you eat certain things like peanuts and popcorn they can get stuck in the pockets and cause and infection. Ask your doctor about it, but hurry up because if you let go on for long enough you could be hospitalized and possibly have to have surgery.

You may have diverticulitis, and it only shows up if you eat an offending food with seeds, etc. or do you have an ovarian cyst, or mid way thru your cycle you have mittelschmerz? It's hard to treat pain unless you know the etiology.
