Reasons Why Being Gay Is Wrong

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriages will be less meaningful if gay marriages were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more kids.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

(one of the saddest parts about our society is that...these arguements, before the humourous common sense, are the real reasons why people can't accept gay marriages.)

I only see two minor problems: being gay is perfectly natural; it's already been recognized and studied in hundreds of thousands of different species worldwide - and goodness knows humans are the only animal with the self-awareness capable of making choices of this kind of magnitude, so if it's unnatural, how did all those animals decide to be gay?

That, and we really haven't adapted to longer life spans - not entirely, anyway. We're vastly overpopulated. Less of us are dying in time to keep the population down. We have TOO MANY kids, as was suggested in reason #6.

Besides - gay marriage may not necessarily be childless. We already have the technology to remove the DNA from an egg. It won't be long before we'll be able to exchange the DNA from egg to sperm and sperm to egg, and thus be able to produce truly biological children from gay couplings. It's not like we really need it, but it still discredits the whole "they shouldn't marry because they can't produce kids" thing...

I don't mean to nitpick, though, really. You make perfectly valid points. Let me know when you’ve got some t-shirts on the market! :)

Anglican leaders from around the world have clearly stated their opposition to the "victimisation or diminishment" of gays and lesbians, saying demonising and persecuting them was "totally against Christian charity and basic principles of pastoral care". "We say that no one should have to live in fear because of the bigotry of others." The mormons poured millions into forcing through prop 8 in CA: to ban gay marriage. In August 2010 the court held that to be unconstitutional. On 15 June 2011 the San Francisco court upheld that decision because it violates the constitutional rights of citizens. On 7 February 2012 the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals struck the California law again finding that the California state constitution banning same-sex marriage violated principles of due process and equal protection under the law. The court found that the ban violates equality laws to target a minority group and withdraw a right that it possessed, without a legitimate reason for doing so. Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California. The constitution simply does not allow for laws of this sort. It is now awaiting the Supreme Court verdict which is expected to uphold the early court decision. If that happens then gay marriage will become legal everywhere and that will be marriage and not civil partnership! France has just legalised gay marriage and Spain has commenced legislating to do so! In the UK The intolerance, bigotry and homophobia from Christians resulted in it being classed as a hate crime with severe sentences. It has led to the government framing legislation which if enacted will replace "Civil Partnership" with full marriage. Spain has just legalised gay marriage and France has commenced legislating to do so! The loving god works in mysterious ways.

This so rocks. Unfortunately you'll get a lot of folks like Julia who purposely miss the entire point. I just don't get the self-righteous "well if they loved just like us everything would be just fine" mentality.

And Orchid there misses the point that it DOESN'T MATTER if it's considered a sin by a religion. We are NOT a theocracy. If you start trying to base legality on religious doctrine, where is the line drawn? In a Muslim area should women suddenly be legislated against? In Utah should we outlaw birth control? In a Pagan area should we declare Samhain (Halloween) a mandatory holiday?
Separation of Church and State is vital, but people only want it if their religion's not being catered to.

Its an email forward, right? I love love love love love it. Read it a while ago and went, "Bingo!" Hit the nail on the head.

I love how no one is trying to touch it. Really, if people even tried to discriminate against Blacks the same way they do against gays, they'd have their @sses in a discrimination law suit faster than you can say "affirmative action".

People against gay marriage would most likely have been the same people defending slavery two hundred years ago, since (circle one) "the sacred insitution of [white supremacy/marriage] is threatened with those damned [negroes/f*ggots].

And to the people giving out all those thumbs downs, can we see some verbal input out of ya? Seems like everyone sans one idiot has been supportive of the question so far.

There is only one reason... marriage was and is intended for procreation.. Not for the legality.. the formal documentation is only for recording for posterity.. If it were not done, the genealogists would really have a difficult time of it.So, even having it legally accepted, the genealogy would not have any record indicating the progeny. It would die off in each generation. Unfortunately, adopted kids are not produced by that union..not recorded as such.

old man, you are wise beyond your years, but you forgot at least one important reason and that is God, who clearly objects to Gay sex.
But I have a few doubts about God's objection, since he has never been married, and is always seen in the company of all those sexy angels, and for generations he managed to convince all those priests to remain single and stay in the company of men only.

I really like the way you phrased this--makes the people who stand out against gay marriage look like idiots without being directly insulting--good job!
