True atheists, though they don't believe in God, they still believe in morals. I have a friend who is an atheist, but is a really good person, doesn't bad-mouth christians and leads a productive life. A matter of fact, a lot of atheists do the same, ironically I know of christians who are lesser of people when it comes to morals and goodness. So why the bad-mouthing? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Christians bad mouth atheists because they see organized religion as the source of all good and morality in the world. They feel that since we do not have a relationship with God, that we are "poor, lost, empty souls". They fail to realize that we do not NEED a God to make us good people. Instead of realizing that we have progressed enough on our own to the point that we can make rational moral decision, they believe that we are choosing sin and immorality over faith. They fail to seperate faith from morality, which is a HUGE mistake.

Because they think they are righteous and know everything. I dont recall any verse in the Bible where Jesus bad-mouthed the athiests. As a matter of fact Jesus criticized those who pretend to know about God more than those who do not believe a God at all.

A good Christian is to spread God's message of love to everyone not judge anyone for what they believe or what they don't.

Then why don't you become an atheist, maybe you'd become a better person in the way you think. Maybe you will be a lot happier. What morals are you talking about?, They have none. It is all a facade. Not believing in God is much worst than being a pagan.
If you have no God, you have no gratitude. You possess no real love.
I guess God Himself will treat a pagan better who believes in many gods comes judgment day, than a person who only believes in himself and his ego. At least pagans believe in gods and show respect and gratitude by paying homage. To deny the existence of God is the greatest of all sin.

I think that a lot of Christians believe it is their job to "spread the gospel" and frown on those who don't accept it. People also get pretty arrogant with their religion and the "more holy than thou" thing, atheists make especially easy targets because of the lack of predetermined morals stemming from any one religion. Then again, some people are just jerks, religious or not....

You are one of the rare people who believes atheists are moral. A recent poll shows that Americans distrust atheists more than any other group and believe them to be utterly without ethics/morals ...

that is despite the fact that atheists are 50 times less likely to be incarcerated (in the U.S.) than Christians, and that the world's two largest philanthropists (Bill Gates and Warren Buffet) are atheists.

As a child I was taught in my church (evangelical protestant) that atheists were next to the Devil and that one should recoil even at the mention of that word. I guess telling kids that kind of nonsense eventually backfired, at least in my case.

I have no reason to doubt that daily experience with atheists can tell us that most are reasonable well-meaning, and even noble regular people just trying to make their way through life.

To answer your question, there is no reason to disparage them for their atheism. But it's important to note that nothing in atheism requires its members to BE reasonable, well-meaning, and noble in their character. Put simply, the atheist who lives a truly moral life, only lives better than his/her atheism warrants.

The distinction needs to be made between the argument against the philosophy and the argument against the person. There is reason for the former, but not necessarily the latter. It's a mistake many people make.

Why do atheists bad mouth Christians? I have seen only a few Christians on here Diss atheists and those people are holy hypocrites I know. Then I read all these questions by atheist dissing Christians and stating facts that don't exist or just say God sucks. I don't bad-mouth atheists but I will if they continue to post ignorant questions like they do on these forums. Christians bad mouth atheists because atheists bad mouth Christians and vice versa. If we just stopped talking s hit to each other and accept each others beliefs then all would be good.

I believe that christians can't wrap their minds around the fact that all people don't believe like they do,and in their small mindness think that anyone who cannot worship like they do are somehow smaller worth less and not good enough to walk the big blue ball some of us worship as all there is blessed be.

People who are like that are not true Christians. Not saying they don't love God but have things in their heart that are not right.God didn't call christians to be supirior over people but to be a witness of Christs power and love. Maybe if christians lived the word of God many people may start believe in God. Its when they see Christ in us..........thats powerful!

because most christians talk big, think theyare all that, and think that just because they pray to God that anything will happen for them, I had a christian tell me that he could win any fist fight by not fighting but hitting the ground and praying, when I said well the guy will knock the hell out of you he said Oh no God will stop him. It is cool you have faith but God made your body for a reason, to atke thing into your own hands at times, Savvy?
