According to John 17:3,How many true Gods is there?

So what is not true must be false?

If there only one true God all others must be false?

According John 1:1 in the The new world translation, Jesus is a god. Do you agree?

Is Jesus a true god or a false god?

He cant be a false god, can he, since that would mean the apostle John was guilty of falsely honoring Jesus as a God?
Therefore he must be a true God. Meaning Jesus is Jehovah.

So John just firmly establishes Christ Deity (as true God) also in 8:58, 20:28

There is one true Almighty God, named "Jehovah".
(Psalm 83:18) That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Any godlike angel working in complete subjection to the one Almighty God is also "true".
(2 Samuel 14:20) My lord is wise as with the wisdom of the angel of the true God

Any supposed peer of Almighty Jehovah God must be a false god.
(Deuteronomy 4:35) Jehovah is the true God; there is no other besides him

Jesus Christ is a god, just like every angel and many humans.
(1 Corinthians 8:5-6) For even though there are those who are called "gods," whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many "gods" and many "lords," 6 there is actually to us one God the Father
(John 1:1,14) In the beginning the Word [Jesus] was, and the Word was with [Jehovah] God, and the Word was a god. ...14 So the Word became flesh and resided among us, and we had a view of his glory, a glory such as belongs to an only-begotten son from a father

Jesus was working in complete obedience to Jehovah.
(John 17:3-5) This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ. 4 I have glorified you on the earth, having finished the work you have given me to do. 5 So now you, Father, glorify me alongside yourself with the glory that I had alongside you before the world was.

Jesus described himself as "the true bread from heaven" and as a 'true witness'. Interestingly, two witnesses are required to establish a matter, so Jesus MUST be distinct from Jehovah.
(John 6:32-33) Jesus said ...my Father does give YOU the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven
(John 8:14-18) Jesus said to them: “Even if I do bear witness about myself, my witness is true...17 Also, in your own Law it is written, ‘The witness of two men is true.’ 18 I am one that bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.”

The Scriptures quite plainly teach that Jesus and the Almighty are separate distinct persons, and the Almighty created Jesus as His firstborn son.

(Colossians 1:15) the firstborn of all creation

(Mark 10:18) Jesus said to him: 'Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God.

(Revelation 3:14) the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God

(Philippians 2:5-6) Christ Jesus, who, although he was existing in God's form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God

(John 8:42) Neither have I come of my own initiative at all, but that One sent me forth

(John 12:49) I have not spoken out of my own impulse, but the Father himself who sent me has given me a commandment as to what to tell and what to speak

(John 14:28) I am going my way to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am

(1 Corinthians 15:28) But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him

(Matthew 20:23) this sitting down at my right hand and at my left is not mine to give, but it belongs to those for whom it has been prepared by my Father

(1 Corinthians 11:3) I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ; ...in turn the head of the Christ is God

(John 20:17) I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.

(Deuteronomy 6:4) Jehovah our God is one Jehovah

(1 Corinthians 8:4-6) There is no God but one. For even though there are those who are called "gods," whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many "gods" and many "lords," there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him

Simon T, are you willing to have a reasonable conversation? Or are you the one who, no matter what JWs say, will not believe? I hope you are still open to be corrected by the Bible. First of all, ACCORDING to JESUS, the only true God, is his Father. You probably know what the word ONLY means, right? So what is Jesus then? Jesus IS the SON OF GOD compared against the term "the only True God". In what sense, is Jesus saying that his Father the only true God. In the sense of the Father being the only Almighty God, the only Creator. Jesus admitted this, pls see John 5:26. What does the word God, & father means and how come Jesus called the Father those terms, notice the word MY. It also doesn't mean that there are no other gods that exist. The difference with the only tue God is that he is the only one is NOT created, the rest are created (angels, humans, etc). Notice the BIble called Jehovah, God of gods. It is not right for you to say the the other gods do not exist or are all
false, because just like Lord of lords, the other lords exists as well. When you also say "he is my true Friend" it doesn't mean that the other friends of yours are false. that mean that your true friend is the best of them all. That's why Jesus called his father the only true God, because the Father is best of them all. Even Jesus admitted that the Father is greater than him. Also notice that when the Bible called Jesus "Mighty God" it is in the FUTURE tense, therefore Jesus doesn't have that title before the prophecy happened.

Where is it written that there are only true or false gods?

Where is it written that all gods with a Capital G are true gods?

Judges 13:21Now the angel of the LORD did not appear to Manoah or his wife again. (U)Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the LORD.

22So Manoah said to his wife, "(V)We will surely die, for we have seen God."

== Is this angel of the LORD (Jehovah) a true God? No he isn't nor is he a false god.

In the context this angel is God's represenative, Jehovah's spokesman and a might one. (an alternate meaning of the word god is mighty one.

Ex 7:1Then the LORD said to Moses, "(A)See, I make you as God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet.

==Is Moses a true God? No,
he is God's representative, Jehovah's spokesman.
Is he a false god? No.

John 1:1(A)In the beginning was (B)the Word, and the Word was (C)with God, and (D)the Word was God.
2He was in the beginning with God.

==Even using a capital G in god(2) doesn't prove that Jesus is the only true God, because like the angel in Judges, and Moses. Jesus is a Might one, a spokesman for Jehovah, Jehovah's represenative.

Jesus is not a False god, nor is he the Only True God. He is like the human judges (gods) of Ps. 82:6.

John clarified his teachings at John 20: 31but these have been written (AT)so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, (AU)the Son of God; and that (AV)believing you may have life in His name.

If you come up with any other teaching then you are misquoting the apostle John.

As to John 8:58, if the NIV version of this scripture is correct.

The answer to the question "Simon How old are you"

You would answer: "Simon"

Actually, the question is whether he is a true God or god. Those are two completely different spellings. John spelled the word god four different ways, never using the same way in reference to God Almighty as he used in reference anyone else. He does use the same spelling when referencing the Word, Satan, and men. So, are that God or god? Buy an Interlinear Greek Translation from a Bible book store and read it.

If you are trying to prove the Trinity, you need to try harder than that. Also, in the old testament, the Word is never referred to as Almighty God, only a mighty god. One who is created and receives its power from an Almighty God.

It would be easier to ask why churches who believe in the Trinity have so much trouble following the teachings of Christ, such as immorality, no participation in politics, using idols, and following man made celebrations?

That is a beautifully put question. Let us, though, examine what the scriptures say about this:

1 Corinthians 8: 5,6 reads: For even though there are those who are called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him.

So there are many who are referred to as Gods and Lords. The one true God is Jehovah, and Jesus is our Lord. Isaiah prophetically referred to Jesus the Messiah as “Mighty God" in Isaiah 9:6: 6 For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

However, no where in the scriptures is Jesus referred to as the "Almighty God". Only Jehovah is given that title. (Genesis 17:1; Isaiah 43:10) Jehovah did produce others, the angels, that he himself called gods, as the Scriptures show by saying concerning certain humans: “I myself have said, ‘You are gods, and all of you are sons of the Most High. Surely you will die just as men do; and like any one of the princes you will fall!’” (Psalm 82:6, 7) Similarly, the Word was a god created by Jehovah, but that did not make Jesus equal to Almighty God at any time.

With reference to John 17:3, in John 14:28, Jesus said: "The Father is greater than I am." Again, 1 Corinthians 11:3 reads: “The head of every man is the Christ; in turn the head of a woman is the man; in turn the head of the Christ is God.” In John 20:17, Jesus said: Jesus said to her: “Stop clinging to me. For I have not yet ascended to the Father. But be on your way to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and YOUR Father and to my God and YOUR God."

So the scriptures show that Jehovah is greater than Jesus and that He is Jesus' God as well. So in the verse as John 17:3, we would need to look at the context. Jesus was praying to Jehovah at that time - Jehovah was his God. So when he spoke of Jehovah as being the only true God, he meant that He was the only true God to be worshipped. We can understand this from Jesus' own words at Matthew 4: 10: Then Jesus said to him: “Go away, Satan! For it is written, ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.'"

Jesus was the firstborn of all creation (Colossians 1:15). Hence, it is true that he existed before Abraham as he said in John 8:58. As far as John 20:28 goes, Some scholars have viewed this expression as an exclamation of astonishment spoken to Jesus but actually directed to God, his Father. . Since the record shows that Jesus had previously sent his disciples the message, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God,” there is no reason for believing that Thomas thought Jesus was the Almighty God. (John 20:17) So, Thomas may have addressed Jesus as “my God” in the sense of Jesus’ being “a god” though not the Almighty God, not “the only true God,” to whom Thomas had often heard Jesus pray. (John 17:1-3) Or he may have addressed Jesus as “my God” in a way similar to expressions made by his forefathers, recorded in the Hebrew Scriptures, with which Thomas was familiar. On various occasions when individuals were visited or addressed by an angelic messenger of Jehovah, the individuals, or at times the Bible writer setting out the account, responded to or spoke of that angelic messenger as though he were Jehovah God. (Compare Ge 16:7-11, 13; 18:1-5, 22-33; 32:24-30; Jg 6:11-15; 13:20-22.) This was because the angelic messenger was acting for Jehovah as his representative, speaking in his name, perhaps using the first person singular pronoun, and even saying, “I am the true God.” (Ge 31:11-13; Jg 2:1-5) Thomas may therefore have spoken to Jesus as “my God” in this sense, acknowledging or confessing Jesus as the representative and spokesman of the true God. Whatever the case, it is certain that Thomas’ words do not contradict the clear statement he himself had heard Jesus make, namely, “The Father is greater than I am.”—John 14:28.
