I received a ticket for rolling through a stop sign and not having proof of insurance. The fine is $890! I have insurance, so that part of the fine will be subtracted, however it isn't itemized, so maybe I'll be on the hook for $400. Anyway, how much jail time will I have to do if I can't pay the fine? I had a friend who took jail time over the fine and got out in 24 hours for $800 worth of tickets; I'm thinking of doing the same. But that was 10 years ago. So what about now? Will I be given jail as an option? If so, how much time will I REALLY have to do?

Im not sure if it will be an option, but you do have options. 1. Payment plan 2. let it go to a warrant and then turn yourself in, but hope you dont get caught before you turn yourself in because if your in OC it may take 7 to 10 days before they bus you into pedro or torrance to go to court where they will tell you time served. If they do let you turn yourself in, you will most likely get proccessed in and released with around midnight and get a few days of work release. My advice is just pay the fine. You might get lice when your being proccessed into the county. And the ticket will probably be reduced to half the fine when you go to court. Its only a few days of work and it will remind you to stop next time. Just save yourself all the trouble and stress and pay the fine. And by the way, if you cant go to traffic school, your increase in insurance will exceed the amount of the fine.

Pay the fine unless you want a criminal record.
