I know, I know pet stores are from the devil, but I was ignorent when I bought her. Now, everyone ( my husband, groomers, dog park ppl) says she is a shih tzu. I was told that shes a Lhasa Apso and I have her pedigree. In truth, she looks A LOT like a Shih but why would they lie? To what gain?

Exactly Lady! I think some Lhasa's throw off a ST coat from back when they used to "accidently" breed them together. No one believes me! *..*

Pet stores sell the lowest quality of dogs for the highest prices.. very likely she is a Lhasa Apso.. but being a poor quality one she may look like a Shih Tzu....
just becuase your husband.. groomers.. dog park people.. say she is one thing.. if you actually have registration papers then they are correct..(the dog should be tattooed or microchipped to link her to the papers)
Pet stores do lie.. often its to get a sale but sometimes its just stupidity.. they are in the business of making money NOT of helping people or helping pets...the staff isnt always as knowledgeable as you would think...(REAL animal lovers would NEVER work at pet stores)
yup they are from the devil when it comes to selling live animals...

A pedigree is different than registration papers. Any dog can have a pedigree. It just tells who the parents, grandparents etc are. If she's just a pet, does it really matter? Dogs can't legally be called purebred unless they are registered with the Kennel club, either American, Canadian, or wherever. They can get in trouble for that. Some places sell dogs as purebred, no papers. That doesn't even make sense. The best you can do is get them for false advertising, in which case you may get a refund. But you will have to give them back the dog. Let it go & just be more careful & do your research next time.

Hi, I'm a vet technician...1st I would research her pedigree...if they lied to you, that's one thing, but it is very hard to lie to the AKC (she is AKC registered?). Is the petstore owner also the breeder? If not, the AKC papers should say who the breeder is...or you can call the AKC or use their website, this is your first and most important step...her pedigree papers should help with this...
I try to give the benefit of doubt, but I also have seen many petstores that sell dogs as purebred, when they are actually mixes from puppy mills in the area...not a pretty thing! This is done, of course, for profit at the expense of the animal and the person buying the dog...I hope this is not the case, and you are able to find out...
These two breeds can look very similar depending on individual breeding...
Are you planning on breeding her? If so, this should be sorted out before planning a litter...the best of luck!

If the 'respectable' breeder used to be caught up with a nasty perspective, she ordinarily wasn't respectable in any respect. Or possibly she used to be simply asking questions approximately how your pal could elevate his puppy, and your pal did not realize the right means to take action. The satisfactory situation to get a puppy is the refuge. True, they have got many combined breeds, however 25% of all refuge puppies are purebreds- simply with out their papers. You can ask your regional refuge to touch you whilst a Samoyed or German shepherd combine are available. If you are set on a purebred, the simplest approach to pass is to a breed rescue. You additionally do not ought to simplest seem at adopting out of your regional pound. There are tons of personal firms which might be funded in general on donations. You can have a larger threat to discover a Samoyed or german shepherd there. A respectable breeder- a REPUTABLE one that may be met at a puppy exhibit or via vets, groomers, and so on- could be an exquisite option in the event you rather desire a tender dog. Shelters usually have dogs too, however you may also ought to wait a even as till a muddle of puppies of considered one of your selected breeds are available. Then once more, you can ought to look forward to a muddle of doggies to be born from a respectable breeder, in view that practically all respectable breeders have lengthy ready lists. If you rather desire to exhibit your puppy and feature a registered purebred, you can ought to pass to a well breeder. Make definite the dad and mom are a minimum of OFA licensed of a rank larger than 'reasonable.' This implies that their hips are healthful. Also, puppy retail outlets get their puppies from dog turbines. So you may also no longer believe you are 'bothering with dog turbines,' however you're in the event you pass to a shop. Good success, and please do not purchase from a puppy retailer!

Lhasa Apsos and Shih tzus are the doggy equivalent to first cousins. I can't imagine why there would be deception there? Lhasas live much longer on average, and are sturdier, but both usually cost about the same. Lhasas are a bit larger than Shih Tzus, but that IS a poser.....

Pet stores lie to gain profit. If they can pull it over as another breed of pet to get more money they will. At the clinic I work at I have seen people bring in papers from pet stores selling plain old Pugs as Puggles, cause if they can make some one believe it then they can get them to pay that much for it. I've even seen some one bring in a "chihuahua" that at 8 weeks old weighed in at 12 pounds.... If you go in wanting something and are essentially ignorant to the typical breed your looking for or the breed that you think your looking at at the time then they will just go with what they thing you want to hear for you to spend the dough...Sucks but that's what they do!!!

Since she is a pet store dog and most likely came from a puppy mill, she could be a shih tzu/lhaso apso mix. She is a beautiful dog.

They probably didn't lie. Those two breeds look a lot alike. The problem with pet shop dogs is where they get them. Usually they come from puppy mills. These are places where dogs are bred under horrific conditions and generally the dogs are not healthy at all. I hope yours is a healthy puppy. Just so you know for the future, you can find all breeds at the shelters. They get them all from pure breeds to mixed breeds. And you have the satisfaction of knowing you have saved a life. The dog you rescue knows it also.

Just out of curiousity...do YOU know what EITHER breed should look like???
You ever READ the BREED STANDARDS???
Also...PET CRAP will NOT conform to the standard. Just because it's an EXTERMELY poor speciman, doesn't mean it's a MUTT!
