I think the fake fur is a great idea. It is a wonderful thing, that these days nice warm clothing is available, when in the past animals had to be killed for their fur.

I think you should avoid all fur if you have a moral opposition to real fur. Because whether you wear faux or real fur, you perpetuate the demand for real fur.

This is a similar argument against the diamond industry which in Africa results in the death and mutilation of women and children. Even though there are "conflict free" diamonds, by purchasing diamonds, you are perpetuating the demand for them thereby contributing in small part to the problem.

I totally get this. Faux fur is acceptable because you might love the look, but hate the idea of killing an animal for it.

Recently I inherited a real fur coat, and I'm reluctant to wear it because I'm afraid someone will ruin it, and it is very sentimental to me. Someone I know bought a leather jacket, but he got it at a thrift store, so he is reusing something without killing more animals while supporting a charity as well.

We need to be less judgemental and more aware and vigilant.

You should follow your conscience.
If you will not wear real fur, maybe you should not wear fake, either. What is repugnant is the fact that the animal has been killed for your wearing pleasure. The other means that you are pretending to wear an animal that has been killed. Both, the actual killing and the pretending, are in some people's opinion, equally repugnant. And encourages other people to go out and buy the real thing.
Do what you want, other people think it is fine to wear a pelt of an animal that has been bred for that purpose, others do not.

I wouldn't wear real fur, either, but fake fur is fine. Fake fur is pretty common these days and I don't think most intelligent people would assume your fake fur to be real. Besides, this is about what you think is right, not about what some guy walking down the street might THINK you think.

I wear a fake fur to keep warm in freezing weather. Each time I wear it I get odd looks from women like I am a tart. Others touch it, stroke it, stare at it and ask if it is real. I am rather fed up with this and ask them what they wear to keep them warm in Winter. The lady in the Dry Cleaners remarked that it was lovely and looked real while she had an odd expression. As far as I am concerned it is just a coat.

If you're against wearing real fur it doesn't make much sense to wear faux fur and have people wondering about you.

I wear leather, pigskin or goat skin, because the animals are completely consumed but not other animal skins. I have no problem with fake fur. I do not lose sleep at night worrying about polyester being visciously slaughtered so I can have a fuzzy coat or hat. Please make your own decision on this one.

I like fake fur. It's warm and pretty and you don't have to kill animals or pay in the high four figures to get it.
