Ask for the extension, but be ready to hand in something by the deadline

An extension, right? Students will still turn in assignment, just at a later date. Sounds like you're already considering providing the extension to your students. If the students are usually hard-working I don't see why an extension in this case would be a bad thing.

look teachers have heard every excuse in the book Im sure you do work hard all of us do but you need to manage your time more efficiantly to get your work done. Lots of people find time to go out party see friends go to movies etc your probably not because of assignments but if you had no assignment yu would be doing something else in that time frame. So just buckle down and get it done. I worked went to college and raised 4 kids!

Yes and no, You should have your work done first. and you can't take other peoples work and call it your own. You should ask for an extension if you are given an unfair due date.
Good Luck

I dont think an extra week or so would be unacceptable, as long as they work hard, they knew the sacrifices they would have to make.
