In theory it could work if used with a major threat. other options are to shoot down the aircraft 300 lives or 3000. me i think i would like to be asleep but that's me. If scientists could come up with the a 100% way of sleep without no fatalities yes good idea but for now no..

Very bad thing. This could cause a panic, health risks for some, some might become violent or unpredictable before passing out, if it ended up being a false alarm there would be lots of law suits, etc. What gas are you referring to? Not all gas effects everyone the same way. The passengers could employ the oxygen mask system and your gas would have not effect. What if the passengers compromised the pilot's cabin and the gas leaked in and knocked them out? D-U-M-B idea.

Clearly you have already forgotten the tragic events of October 2002 when Russian forces used sleeping gas to immobilize Chechnyan terrorists who were holding hostages inside a Moscow theater -- killing more than 100 people in the process.
Sorry, there is no anesthetic gas capable of safely and swiftly rendering all persons unconscious in such a scenario as you describe.

I think it's a bad idea. I'm a big lad so if i were travelling with my 2 year old daughter the amount of gas needed to knock me out would maybe be to much for my kid and that much gas could kill her. also some people maybe allergic to the gas . In theory it sounds like a good idea but in practice not.

A good one to throw onto the ideas table.
You’ve really come up with something worthwhile here.
The banks and credit card companies will love you for it.
Your proposal is something that could be modified as a possible anti-hijack, anti-terrorist defence along with nerve gas, deprivation of oxygen, ejection seats or military style bomb-bay doors in the floor to selectively dispose of troublemakers.
Aisle row seats could be fitted with liquid petroleum gas jets and self-igniters to immolate terrorists.
Don't let the timid small "l" liberals and the humanists inhibit you. Develop the idea.
So what if a few stewardesses, hopeful passengers, children, suffer along the way.
This is all perfectly acceptable in the real world.
You would simply be using standard Western police and military ethics that allow for some "collateral damage", injuring or killing off a few or many innocents to save the majority - or more importantly, to save corporate property. share capital, money.
This should win you a Presidential citation, an all expenses trip to Wall Street, lunch with Dick Cheney and Cherie Blair, a weekend with the Thatchers, all you can eat at MacDonalds and KFC, a year’s supply of Revlon cosmetics – or napalm if you prefer, Christmas at Toys-r-Us, a free Gold Visa Card, life membership of American Express, and a cryogenic capsule next to Walt Disney.

ok lets use some grey matter...
Initially it sounds like a good idea, however think outside the box
If a terrorist attack were to occur... Gassign everyone in an attempt to put the offenders to sleep could mean that they wear breathing aparatus.
On a health and safty issue should while everyone was sleeping the cabin depresurise, could everyone still breath if they were asleep?

Bad idea, there is no way to regulate how much gas each person receives. So while you may knock some people out there will be others that do not go to sleep and there will be ones that get overdosed and die.

This is a crazy idea. Travellers with certain medical conditions may not wake up again. Don't you remember the hostage taking at the moscow theatre a couple of years ago when this was tried and killed a lot of people.

Too risky! It might work for 99.99% of people but could kill some people, particularly elderly, children or ill (Asthma for example).
in those situations. people tend to forget why it is there in the first place and the airline would get sued.
