Nancy D, you have no pride, neither an understanding of the South or other individuals for that matter, the southerners had the right to self determenation, that was what the civil war was all about, and the military occupation cleaned up after the civil war, but nothing went back to normal until Southern governments were recognized by the North.

In my opinion, there were no winners in the Civil War. Can you imagine if that happened today? Oh, we don't like what you're doing so we're going to secede? When you think of all the wasted lives lost in that war; some that they're STILL finding to this day; and for what? Power, control? They fought for what they believed in and then finally came to an agreement, so what was the point? Just because the South surrendered, doesn't necessarily mean the North won. Former slaves and everyone else, cleaned up the mess after the civil war; if that's what you're referring to; and to this day, there are alot of southerners who still hold it against the so called Yankees; even though they actually started everything.
