It's hard to explain, but he's my best attempt:

AT - Preposition that indicates that the noun that follows it (home) is treated as a point in relation to which another object (I) is positioned.

IN - Preposition that indicates that an object (I) lies within the boundaries of an area or within the confines of a volume (the house).

Home is an abstract place (casero?), so you cannot physically be w/in the confines of the idea.
House is a physical structure that you can occupy.

See http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/esl/eslprep2.html
for diagrams.

Test yourself on AT, IN, ON at

Also, many other english language tests on this site.
Hope this helps.

I believe you are at a place (at home, at the park, at work, at school) but you are in, meaning inside something (in a house, in a car, in a room). It is confusing for me because sometimes we us both for the same thing such as in a meeting or at a meeting. Home is always at home. I don't believe I have helped you very much.
