I keep my dogs and cats indoors 365 days a year, unless I am outside w/ them. I do think people should take their animals in on Halloween. Especially if it is a black cat. There are some really sick people out on that night.

Best to keep cats or dogs indoors on Halloween, with all the noise going on(fireworks). Pets get very nervous, want to get away from the loudness. Resulting in going to far from home. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't. As for black cats keep them out of sight. Halloween is for fun not cruelty to pets.

All my cats stay inside year-round but if I had outdoor cats I would probably keep them inside especially on Halloween because of the crazy people who try to poison and hurt animals on this day.

I have a black cat and two others and a dog as well, on Halloween they will all be in. I've kept them in most of the weekend as well.

I know alot of the shelters will not allow black cats to be adopted around Halloween and I think we all know why. Dogs can get aggressive...they dont understand whats going on but I do allow my dogs to go out w/me but they dont leave my side and they are okay w/it..I feel it makes a well socialized dog but if you are not committed or dont keep a watchful eye on them its best to leave them inside. I also dont feel it is worth stressing your animal out over it either. Use your best judgement and we all know that for many...its probably best to leave them indoors.

I am on my 2nd black cat and few days prior to halloween and the night itself she is out of sight of all windows. I keep the blinds down and everything.

Having already lost a cat to the neighbourhood teenage monsters, who brutally injured her so badly that she had to be put down, I decided that I would not risk the lives of my cats ever again, my two are house cats, and never go out. That also means that they don't kill any wildlife or poop in anyone else's garden etc, so they aren't a menace to the neighbourhood either.

well really you shouldnt let them out days before Halloween.. or really never at all...
indoor only cats live much longer than outdoor/indoor cats - whose lifespans average 2 years
a good owner would keep their cat in any time becuase Halloween isnt the only time people look for easy pickings of "free" pets...
worst time of the year to give away free kittens or puppies too
