My son use to be afraid of the dark and we left the light on for him. Even though he closed his eyes as long as we left the light on for him he wasn't afraid. I didn't find he was afraid till I left the light off. I came back to check on him and noticed the light on and I knew I had turned it off. I turned it off thinking I had left it on. The next night the same thing happened. Then I knew that he was afraid of the dark. He is 12 now and no longer afraid of the dark. Since I have started going bk to church I would tell a person who is adult or child that they are not alone. God is always with them and they should feel safe and not to be afraid. They can trust in Him and he will take away all their fears. Even though I am going bk to church I would still leave the light on for them just so they feel more secure. As long as the light was on even if his eyes were closed he wasn't afraid.

I am still unsure of complete darkness but I leave the bathroom light on for me and my two children i never stop my son ( who is more afraid than his little sister) putting his light on if he has nightmares or becomes anxious in the night I am a spiritualist and believe there are things that go bump in night and have done since I was a small child having the light on eases the fear of the unknown. As a small child I could not sleep with out the landing light on I could have been asleep for hours but if anyone turned it off I was awake in a flash. I was not afraid to close my eyes though and it is something I have never thought of before what a great question x

I'm not afraid when i close my eyes.. Just when i'm in a dark room with my eyes open..
I'm afraid of the dark because one time my brother shut my door and i was in the dark and i was thinking "okay..i'm gonna go to bed" and then i heard footsteps and breathing coming towards my bed... So that's why i'm afraid of the dark.. (just so ya know...)

No, theyr not scared when they close their eyes.
The only way I can explain it is that closing your eyes whilst being scared in the dark gives a sense of peace, like as long as they keep their eyes closed they wont see anything (if anything was there that is)

Most of the time, they are scared of what is hiding in the dark, not the dark itself. So I would think not. But who knows? Maybe....
