I share an apartment with 3 other girls. We all only share the kitchen and living room; we have separate leases for the rooms.
One of the girls in the apartment is smoking and me and the other roommates smelled smoke at separate times and one saw her boyfriend smoking in the kitchen.
Anyway, I hate the fact that she is smoking, I signed up for a non-smoking apartment, as did the other two roommates. My boyfriend says that I should tell the main office right away so that she is forced to stop. But then I get paranoid because I don't trust her. She lied to us roommates' faces about the smoke. I don't trust her with my food being in the kitchen, she could be vengeful. So what should I do? We all told her to stop smoking and she denies it and keeps doing it. We don't have the right to enter her room either.

The only way you can get her out of the apartment is if you signed a lease that says the apartment is non smoking.

If she is smoking, all of the girls should tell the landlord and let him either advise her to stop smoking inside the apartment or to smoke outside.

The next time you smell smoke, grab your camera and bust into her room (why should you care about *her* rules when she doesn't care about yours or the apartment management's rules?) and take a picture of her. Take it to the apartment manager and get her evicted RIGHT THEN. This woman sounds like a menace, if you can't even trust her around your food. The sooner you get her out of there, the better. But the only way you will be able to do it is with solid proof, like a photo.

The THREE of you nonsmokers need to stand and have a united front. Insist that ther will be NO smoking in the apartment, by either tenants or guests. If this situation continues, then the THREE of you must go together to the main office to file a complaint. That way, it will be three against one, and not one on one. After you file the complaint, it is up to the management to enforce the rule, and not you. This way, they have a legitimate reason to evict her for violating the lease.

if u rly feel uncomfortable then only leave unopened things in the kitchen and get a mini fridge and other thing to keep in ur room and keep it locked away. then go straight to the main office and if she doesn't stop report it again and this time press that they need to deal wiht it. second hand smoke is a serious problem nd they could get sued for not putting a stop to her habits of smoking in the aparetment!

I would discuss the situation with your other roommates, and collectively go to the main office and let someone know about the smoking and you distrust. Hopefully, with the other room mates present, you all can come to a resolution.

You should tell the apartment management. If she's smoking in the living room or kitchen then that's part your room too. You could be held responsible too if management finds smoke in there. You should tell them ASAP to avoid having it become your problem.

Thats a tough one. You may be looking for another place to live. Shes most likely going to keep doing it. Either she quits smoking in the apartment, or she moves or you move.

It just sounds like its going to get messy. She just sounds like a real problem.

Sorry to hear that youre dealing with this.

next time you talk to the main office. Let them know about your feelings on confronting her. When you smell the smoke...call the main office to come over and catch her red handed...make sure he is using an excuse as to his reason to come.

well you should report it since you live in a non smoking environment and when she signed her lease I'm sure they told her that and she is in violation of the contract as far as your food buy a small fridge for your room
