polytheism makes more sense, because if you worship gods then the driving forces behind those gods are real and exist--IE there's a goddess of love, there is love, there is a goddes of oceans, there are oceans, there is a goddess of wind, there is wind, etc.--when you only believe in one god you're attributing everything to one deity, and while you are certain that everything is there, you still cannot be certain the deity is

The problem with polytheism is that all the gods are continually jostling for a dominant position in the hierarchy of "gods" Ultimately we realize that only the most powerful and dominant god can be the one true God.
If God is indeed omnipotent then only ONE omnipotent beng can exist. The war amongst all omnipotent beings would have ended eons ago as they battled to the last, after which, only the ONE most powerful entity would have remained as the leader. The others would have been eliminated or relegated to a lesser status.
Ergo, God is ONE, not many.

I think it's a matter of personal preference,
Of course the God of Abraham would disagree... over and over with the 'no other gods but me' stuff... always made the phrase 'He doth protest too much' come to mind.... as though he was trying to convince HIMself that He's the only god.... I mean really... only ten commandments and TWO of them--the first two, no less-- are dedicated to only worshipping Him...
Anyhow, I think most monotheists tend to consider different aspects of their one God depending on what they are after at the time.... for instance when they want to judge someone, they're all about God's vengeance, when they want someone to help them, they're all about God's compassion, etc.

I'm an atheist, so naturally I think that's better than monotheism or polytheism. However, I don't mind your believing whatever you believe, as long as you treat me with basic courtesy and respect.

Well, its quite impossible for polytheism to be a cult. Its outside the parameters of cult psychology. Plus, it just kicks ***. :D
Monotheism however, does have the qualifications to become a cult, potentially. Look at christianity.....

I find no reason not to accept the existence of an “Orphic” Divine Power, for I am aware of no rational wisdom leading me to believe otherwise!
