i saw this on an episode of an old ripley's believe it or not.
use a cloth napkin (paper towel is not strong enough) to capture the cork by inserting the corner of the napkin into the bottle (not all the way of course). invert the bottle so the cork will land on the napkin. twist the napkin a little to make sure that the cork is in the napkin because you will twist and yank the napkin out of the bottle. the cork will come out with the napkin.

This must be a homework problem. I mean how did the cork get into the bottle in the first place, and why can't you smash the bottle? You could try waiting for a few months ans see if the cork dries out!
It reminds me of a mathematical problem about a bath tub. Both taps are on full, the hot water runs at so many litres per minute, the cold water at so many litres per minute, but the plug is out and water is running out of the bath at so many litres a minute. How long will it take to fill the bath? Now what sort of idiot would do that and still want to know the answer?

Take a shoe lace or some cordage as thick and as strong, tie a knot in one end and insert it into the bottle to the bottom then invert the bottle so the cork is in the neck and slowly pull the cordage till it binds with the cork and pull it out. Also works when you have pushed the cork into a bottle full of liquid!

Feed the corner of a paper towel, etc. down into the bottle - far enough so that when you turn or shake the bottle, the cork can land into the fold of the paper. Pull the paper out with the cork.

Why would you care about getting the cork out of an empty bottle? Just throw it away!

Open a wire hanger, straighten it out, stand the bottle on a counter while you hold it around the bottleneck with one hand and stick the wire in with the other. You should be able to stab the cork in the middle and pull it out.
