I'm asking in the religion category because according to my research so far, most anti-nudity legislation was pushed through by religious groups, despite the fact that [in the case of christianity], Adam and Eve were created naked, and only became ashamed of this once they had eaten the forbidden fruit.

petrel raises a good point in that clothing is to protect us fromthe weather, so why wear clothes on a nice day?
I know that most people when naked are not particularly attrictive, but if that's your only case for banning public nudity, shouldn't we also ban people who are uglier than brad pitt or cindy crawford from exposing their faces?

ron-ron raises valid issues, but they all come down to the way people have been raised, which is down to the aforementioned legislation, but if it's a balmy day & i want to nip out for a paper, who's gonna get hurt if i wanted to do so without getting dressed first?

I have 2 disagree with salvation's argument that there would be more lust and rape.
I think if we were more accustomed to nudity, it wouldn't be such a big issue, and that as a results, there would be less sex crime.
I definitely agree with Denhards comment about governments controlling us.

Modern religions work to separate man from nature. Nudity is our natural state, so they cant stand it. They hate sexuality and evolution for similar reasons: They make humanity's kinship with the rest of nature obvious.
Modern religions try to separate us from nature because if they dont, its pretty hard to believe that we have an eternal soul and the other species do not.

In America it's actually not illegal to be naked, it's only illegal to distrupt the peace, so if no one cared and the person was really really hot, then it isn't illegal. Unless people start crashing cars all over the place, it's ok.
It's not ok to me (I'm the religious type), but I'm just answering the question the way a lawyer or an honest politician would.

Nudity isn't practical at all times in most civilized countries because of the climate. You'd freeze your wiggly-jigglies off. Nudity isn't practical for men because of injuries, women's breasts would definitely hang low, and that could be painful, no?
Most civilized countries do have places where people can be nude, but not without discretion.
Not to mention women during their period, the juicy fart, etc.

Imagine a naked sweaty hairy fat guy sitting next to you at work.
Imagine naked supermodels picking up trash on the side of the road as you drive by 80 MPH.
Imagine your dad bend over to pick up a dollar bill he dropped as he pays for your lunch.
None of these scenarios have a good endings.

I'm still LMAO at Ron Ron's answer...but I gotta say...EW, too many people don't bathe enough as it is. I do believe that women should be able to go topless though.
I don't know why it's illegal unless it is just for the safety aspect.

I don't know about it being pushed by religious groups, but I've been asked to keep clothed at all times for the sake of humanity.

because most cultures aren't prepared to face public nudity. it's just not right, and can be pretty unpleasant based on modern standards. imagine... you're a a bank manager and you're trying to attend to an old client who has a bad case of genital herpes. in today's times, it's difficult to keep a poker face when you're in front of a person with genital herpes who's stark naked in front of you.

Its not illegal to be naked. Just naked in public places.
It may come from religous people, but it doesnt mean it doesnt have a natural point to it. Turn away from religion but dont turn away from reason and intelligence also

God covered them once they sinned. They became aware that they were naked. If we ran around naked then we would lust after people, and then take more advantage of people. There would be more rapes. God wants one man and one women to see each other naked. Not everyone else. Our bodies are beautiful, and should not be used to entice others.
