I understand. There was a time when I didn't want to take pharmaceutical drugs for my panic attacks either. So I went to my nearest herbal store.

Back then, I was advised to try a combination of Black Cohosh and Valerian Root ... and although the effects were not immediate, over a period of a week, the herbs really kicked in and really helped.

At the moment, you probably want something more fast acting, so perhaps one of these 2 sites will be helpful to you:

PLEASE, before trying ANY herbal remedies, become more informed about their proper usage and possible side effects. Below are a few sites that will give your "herbal education" a good jump start ( and of course, each site offers links to even more sites ):

Having been where you are, I truly feel for you. But try to keep your chin up ... there's a good remedy out there for you and you WILL find it ... better, calmer days are just up ahead.

There's an herb called valerian that has a mild relaxing effect. It can make you sleepy, so try it first during a time that you don't have any plans. Take 2-3 capsules of powdered root 1-2 times a day. It smells kinda stinky, though... If you want to take it as a tea, try blending it with spearmint, linden blossoms and chamomile, and sweeten with some honey. Tastes very good, and the other herbs add to the soothing effects of the valerian.

Also, there are other meds on the market that don't have the dumbing down effect of Xanax, like Klonopin and Ativan; your dr can also explore options in the anti-psychotics. I take Seroquel to help smoothe out my other meds for bipolar disorder, and it has antianxiety properties.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life
