If they're against embryonic stem cell research, why aren't they against invitro fertilization?

A few years ago, a fundamentalist couple had septuplets (I think it was 7, anyway) due to using fertility drugs. Early in the pregnancy, their doctor advised them to cull out the smaller ones, but they refused, saying they'd leave it up to god. I thought that was really odd, since god had already made it clear he didn't want them to have children (or they wouldn't have needed fertility drugs).

Personally, I'm pro-invitro b/c it is a process which has the goal of creating and sustaining life. Embryonic stem cell research creates an embryo (read: living person) and then destroys it in the name of progress. Who gave us the right to decide which embryos get to live to birth and which ones die. Scientists might create some embryo who could grow up to cure the very diseases that they are willing to kill embryos for.

Good question, and I believe that they should be against IVF since many more embryos are created and frozen than are implanted and are born. Morally I am opposed to IVF. I have known a few people who have experienced heartbreak after trying IVF.

We are against embryonic stem cell research because it is purposely creating human life to destroy it. IVF although embryos die (through failed at temps) does not consist of malicious actions that ESC does.
