I think some people really have this misconception that people that take their own lives are selfish, bad, etc., this is not the case. For someone to resort to that, they had to of really been suffering; emotionally, mentally, physically,-whatever the reason it is the last resort. It is devastating indeed! If we can be aware of the tell-tale signs of someone who is suffering we want to do our utmost to reach out to them and see that they get the needed help.

Well first off, I hope you aren't contemplating this,, and I surely don't want to give you advice on how to, or encourage it.. these questions are the most sensitive to me, (though I have no family or inclinations myself to ever do such a thing),,and this question is never "funny or amusing" to me.. .that said...

Yes, I believe an educated person, knowing the justification of their actions, having a sound mind, and ability to make such a decision, preparing for such a demise, is able. My thoughts to to someone who is elderly, alone, family is gone, friends are past, no children, ailing from some health prognosis which is poor, and just simply wants to have a controlled dignified way to rest peacefully and if they contemplate being a "burden" to others, whether they feel to nurses caring for them, or others, while they are living. I think of cancer patients, young and old, who contemplate this, ....Aids/HIV patients, with poor prognosis... and several other diseases.

I'm not saying it's morally right, I'm not condoning it, I'm merely saying, I "understand" why one would feel that in the worst of health, the best choice would be to end their own suffering, to recognize the beauty that their life was, and to want to die in control of how, when, where, ... yeah it's comprehensible.

There can be no justifiable reason for a human to take his own life, or any other's life.

Life and Body realize their co-existence for Awakening to be in Life. The Life continues after death, by getting born in another body for realizing its purpose of Awakening. Awakening is to understand the co-existence realized at all levels in existence. Suicide or Murder don't serve this purpose - and therefore are meaningless acts. Meaningless acts cause disharmony.

I have seen some people with intractable pain. Usually it is secondary to cancer. I truly don't know what I would do in their situation.
