I am presuming you are female. Well, you can say you have an irregular menstrual cycle and went in for a D&C (dilation & curettage). That will stop males from pursuing the matter further, as they do not want to hear about "female" problems. (Especially male bosses, if you are employed and have to take off work.)
That is also a procedure that is performed on an outpatient basis. And, as lots of women DO have irregular menstrual cycles, it will probably satisfy the women who are curious as to why you had out-patient surgery.
FYI, I had irregular menstrual cycles most of my life, which was not a secret to my family. I used this very same excuse when I had my outpatient surgery, and nobody thought anything about it. It was (and is still) nobody else's business what a woman -- or a man, for that matter -- chooses to have surgically corrected.
Having said this, however, be aware that there are no "bandages" to change after a D&C, so if your surgery results in changing bandages, you will either need to keep that part hidden from people, or use another surgical procedure as the "excuse."

Well... if the scars aren't in an obvious place, then you could always say that it is a birthmark.
Or... you could tell the truth.
Hang on... are you going to be publicizing the reason for your surgical procedure in a national forum, or are you just worried about what to tell your loved ones? If the latter is the case, then you should have a long think about why you don't trust your loved ones with personal information.
The truth is always the best option, but having said that - I (and just about everyone else who you don't know) have no reason whatsoever to know where your scars are or what you did to get them.
:-)

If you are for real, then way more details are needed. Remember that you can be anonymous here, so if you don't want to talk about the emotional, ethics side of you dilemma, that is fine. But more details are needed to really answer you with a high degree of honesty and practicality, if you want to pull this little fib off.

Honestly dont even tell anyone....you dont have to. Its noones right but yours just say your taking a personal day. If you really want to make an excuse say you are getting a route canal and are scared of the dentist and are getting put to sleep ....no one is going to check you mouth to see if your lying. But if you are going to be bandaged or not able to walk ot whatever...then you may have to think about another story. Good luck with your surgery!

Depending on where the scars are I would just say that you went to the doctor to have a skin biopsy. If someone should ask just tell them that you were told they could be cancerous. I hope this helps.

You didn't give us much to work with.
I'm always having sun spots frozen off by the dematologist. In case they are skin cancer. That is good if it is a minor procedure.
