If your cat comes home on the same day as her surgery, she will still be a bit groggy. Just leave her somewhere quiet and out of the way so she can sleep it off. You should only feed her 1/2 of her normal food that evening. She may or may not eat depending on how she feels. You will need to keep her on restricted activity for about 10 days after the surgery. No running, jumping, climbing, excessive playing, etc. This is to allow the incision to heal and not cause infection. If your vet uses absorbable skin sutures, you will not need to take her to the vet for suture removal. They should absorb in around 7-10 days from surgery. If she doesn't have absorbable, you will need to take her back and have them removed in about 7 days from surgery. You will need to make sure she doesn't remove her sutures or opens her incision. Cats will lick their incisions which is ok as long as its not excessive. If she does continue to lick and pull at the sutures, you can get an E-collar from your vet.

Good luck and thank you for spaying your kitty!

Your little lady may be a bit sleepy when she gets home and be off her food for a day or two. Don't worry, it's normal. Usually, there are no problems with a spay, however, you should keep an eye on the incision and make sure it's clean and that she's not biting or licking the stitches. If she does, it may be necessary to use a head collar for a few days so she can't pull out the the stitches. If the site becomes red and inflamed, or you notice swelling or oozing around the incision, contact your vet. And don't let the incision get wet. She should also be kept reasonably quiet for about a week - and should not be allowed to jump onto or off of anything, which is a bit like telling a rabbit not to hop! Congratulations on becoming a member of the responsible pet owners club!

When she first comes home, she will still be a little foggy from the anesthesia. Don't put her up on anything, to protect her from falling. She will probably want to be left alone and allowed to sleep for a while.

Follow the vet's instructions about what and when to begin feeding again, and she will probably come home with antibiotics to prevent infection. Be very careful to give the antibiotics as instructed.

After a day or two, she is going to try to lick the incision. This could tear out the stitches, so try to keep an eye on her and distract her if she starts to lick. After three or four days, this becomes less of a problem, because cats skin heals so quickly. Depending on her personality, she may want a lot of sympathy and love. She may also be upset with you for taking her to that place where they did the evil deed and caused her pain. She will get over it.

Hope this helped.

Initally she may be more quite and not run around alot (which is good). Cats are very good at knowing what is best for them. Dogs will run around like nuts after they have a limb removed let alone when they are spayed. Make sure she isn't bothering with her sutures. Depending if she spends a night in the hospital after surgery or not she might still be woozy when she comes home from the anesthesia and not want to eat. Make sure that she's not around stairs as her depth perception might be off and she might fall. Other than that they normally recover very well with not problems. If she does seem to be getting at her sutures get an E-collar from the vet so she can leave them be and let it heal properly. Thank you so much for being a responsible pet owner :) Your kitty loves you for it!

It sort of depends on the cat. But they usually are a little out of it from the medication and sore from the surgery. She will probably want to sleep some where for awhile. But typically in a day or so they are getting back to normal.
She will have stiches of some kind. I have two cats and one got normal stiches that had to be removed and the other had this glue stuff that dissolved on it's own in a few days.

She will be groggy and may be "out of it" when she first comes home. Cats are really resilient and generally recover very quickly.

We always got our cats back when the were still knocked out so we put them on some old clothes/ towels since they sometimes cannot control their bodily functions while they are out.. They all came around very quickly though. It's not as traumatic as we think it will be for them.

I just got my 5 month old boy castrated and he's fine! That night he was on a halucinagen so he acted a little funny, but he's been himself ever since. They used surgical glue so we didnt have to worry about stitches.

Good for you!
The cat you have now will be the same cat after she's spayed.
Be sure to ask the vet about her after-care and what to expect, the vet will certainly want to answer any questions you'll have.
