And by the same line of reasoning, isn't atheism, the LACK of belief in God, a belief?

Lemme know what you think.

Do I have to BELIEVE that a giant walrus isn't sleeping in my bed whenever I'm not looking, or is it fair to say that I simply LACK BELIEF in such a thing happening?

Yes, collecting stamps ISN'T something the person does... and believing in god ISN'T something the atheist does. Likewise, I know that people who are bald still have hair, but the baldness ITSELF, i.e. the LACK OF HAIR, does not ITSELF have a color.

But yeah, let's say that atheism is a belief... even though BELIEVING IN GOD is something atheists DON'T do... sort of like the person who DOESN'T collect stamps.

Your syntax is a bit convoluted, but your basic point is good. Atheism is a non-belief, not a belief in a negative. I happen not to believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I also don't believe in Odin, Zeus, Shiva, or Baal. How is that any different than my not believing in the Christian God or the Muslim Allah? It's not a religion.

No, its different. "not collecting stamps" just means that isn't something you do. And you still have a hair color even if you are bald.

and atheism is the belief that there is nothing beyond what science says, so its a belief

Its just an predominately unorganized religion.

Haha, yeah. A lack of the belief in any sort of deity is a belief. That's why Atheism is considered a religion.

Yep, it IS a belief. A belief is simply something you BELIEVE to be true. Since it can not be PROVEN, but rather believed, either by faith, or logical opinion, it is a belief.
