is that a part of OCD? I'm talking OBSESSED! My younger sister (19) will not leave the house if she doesnt look perfect! She's not vein, she tells me she really cant help it and she'll feel physically sick in public if she doesnt feel like she looks her best. I'm getting a little worried, its only getting worse. Could it be OCD?

Sounds like a textbook example of obsessive-compulsive disorder. She needs to see a psychiatrist for diagnosis -- it's not going to get better on its own.

She's not vein, but she fears the "Ugly Betty Syndrome".
Your sister "could" have a form of OCD if she spends more and more time on the same issue everyday. It could be a low self esteem problem, and she has to make herself perfect to naturalize or prevent the dreaded thoughts inside her head from happening.
Anxiety from not being perfect in ones own mind is an event or situation impossible to resist/control. I hope she snaps out it eventually, or she will need some professional help in the future.

Sounds like it, maybe. But I'm no doctor....but I AM a hypochondriac and tend to think I have OCD, so maybe I'm not the best to answer this. In any case....you or your parents should find a gentle way to tell her she needs professional help. It may go way beyond OCD if she physically gets sick b/c she doesn't think she looks good enough. Until then, do whatever you can to raise her self-esteem. No nit-picking or griping when she takes so long to get ready. Just let her know how beautiful she looks, and encourage others to do the same.

Sounds about right from what little I know about it...it is a pretty tough thing to live with and I do hope she gets help for this miserable state of affairs.

Yes. Usually when girls are that obsessed with appearance, they were abused sexually. Is this the case? If so she may need professional intervention to get better.

Most attractive people spend a lot of time primping and preparing to be seen. I know, I'm one of them. If she's attractive, then it's normal. If she's unattractive, then she should seek counseling.

either that or extreme peer pressure.
May try and talk to a family counselor and see if there's something more going on.
