well i am a black girl with thick , long hair. But it is really unmanagable, all i do is wear it braided... i was thinking about getting a really cute short hair cut, but when i ask people what i should do they just say oh no dont cut it its too long... so what do i do?

i mean if thats what u really want then u should do it, but i know my mother did the same and it took like 5 years to get her hair to grow back at normal lenth and rate... i think u should get it permed to make it silky and maybe trimed or layered... they cut it a little but im my eye it be lookin really cute also... especially if u have alot of hair!!!!

What makes it unmanagable? Is it your schedule? Perhaps you work a lot or have children? I ask this because I want you to take an honest look at why you want to cut it. So often we're told that something is wrong with us and we internalize it. The very fact that you started off saying you are a "black girl" classifies your comment. Don't get me wrong, I AM NOT JUDGING you! I have always admired people with thick hair. Although I don't have thick hair I stuggled with going natural a few years ago. I have had curls (LOL), perms, and braids since I was little. I have also struggled with my hair falling out in patches once a year for several years. Friends tried to convince me to go natural and at first I felt as if they were asking me to sell my soul to the devil! Me without a perm...! I decided that I was holding on to something I had internalize (straight hair is "good hair"). You know that saying as most black girls have heard it since forever. Three years later I have completely virgin hair and am loving it. I get it straightened occasionally but mostly wear it pulled back. Ok, the point of all that was to say-DO YOU! I'm not going to tell you what to do either way. What I will say is explore all the reasons (pros and cons) before you make a decision.

if you decide to go shorter, do it in steps. first take off 3 or so inches, if you like that, next time take of even more. going from really long to really short can be hard, it takes an awful long time to grow it back out if you decie you dont like it.
also, i have thick, unmanageable hair aswell, although i think we have different rextures. but im actually growing out a shorter cut which i HATED because since i have so much hair, (which is coarse and pretty curly when short) it took forever to style because i had to fight the natural texture.
why not go for an under the sholders length and get it professionally relaxed? ive dont that before too and was pretty satisfied.

i am having the SAME problem. i'm a white girl with thick long hair! so i feel your pain with it being hard to manage. long hair IS beautiful, but short hair can be beautiful too!! my boyfriend made me a hair appointment for friday (subtle hint? haha) ... and i still can't decide! ahh! keep in touch, let me know if you get it cut and how it works out... i COMPLETELY feel for you and your situation... a girl's hair is part of her essence, almost SACRED haha... best of luck to you, im sure youll look wonderful no matter what =)

Don't cut your hair. Do you know how many woman are going out and buying hair? Try a few up- do's to keep it out of your way,or buy a few cute clips.

If you really feel like cutting it, cut it!
Hair will grow back if you don't like it short.
Something till your chin would look great, and it will be so much easier to style right!
But if you are really afraid of cutting it (and your friends have nothing to do with it), cut it till your shoulders so you can see how it looks, and maybe later you will feel ok with cutting it more.

dont cut it cause it really is hard to find alot of black girls in south ga where i live with long hair ..... and it is soo pretty on them! good luck..

Just get a good relaxer and get it trimmed but I don't think you should get it cut short.

cut it to about your belly button, if its longer than that now. see a hairstylist and ask her what products she reccomends to make if easier to manage. good luck
