How many of you are not getting the flu
vaccine, and if not, why not? Does it really
contain formaldehyde and tymarisol?

Yes I do get the flu shot. I am a health care worker. Until your question I had no idea that these ingredients were indeed in the flu shots! Thimersal is used to sterilize the vaccine and formaldehyde is used as a disinfectant and preservative. Both are used in other immunizations as well. Sounds kinda scary. I don't think it is policy everywhere shots are given but our hospital has us sign a waver sighting the possible side effects including death that can in rare occasions happen with the vaccine. Things that make you go hhhmmmmmm.

I never get the flu vaccine. I personally find it pointless because many people who get the vaccine still get the flu...because the vaccine doesn't cover every form of virus that the flu has. Plus, the only way to get natural and permanent immunity to a strain of flu is to recover naturally from the flu. The strains of flu virus in the vaccine are inactivated with formaldehyde and preserved with thimerosal, which is a mercury derivative.

And for the record for all those who are convinced that they might have suffered from some sort of stomach flu...there is no such thing. Influenza is a respiratory illness, not a stomach virus. Stomach viruses are usually linked to gastroenteritis.

Formaldehyde is a neru-toxin, it couldn't be put into the vaccine.
I have no idea what "tymarisol" is, so I Googled it and nothing comes up.

The vaccine is safe, and if you have medical reasons, a must. I use to get one every year because my jobs give them for free, but last year (I was 29) I got a little sick from it and I'm not going to get it this year. It probably doesn't help that I don't do well with needles.

Many of the vaccines now are preservative free. They are much safer than they used to be. I got one, but then again I work in a pediatric er, talk about exposure.

Well I for one can not say I'm not getting a shot, because I got
one at the ending of last month (9/28/06). I get it because I
have Asthma.
