Ever since I was a little, I've enjoyed mind altering experiences. I enjoyed swinging, because I liked the way it made my body feel. I felt uncordinated and out of control and in a way, euphoric. I enjoyed making myself dizzy just the same. It's no wonder I am a stoner and a heavy drinker. I don't do these things everyday, but as often as possible. I was just wondering (I often wonder in this state of mind), if anyone else cannot explain the reason they enjoy being intoxicated? You can't explain it. All you know is you enjoy being high. My definition of high is an escape from reality. Being "high" is not limited to mind altering substances. Being high can be the little boy in the swing or a football player making a tackle. These are all ways of achieving a high, and everyone needs to get high. Anyone else feel the same?

There is a wonderful book, whose title escapes me now, that I read when I was a substance abuse counselor, and it's number one thesis is just as you say, that people like to be "intoxicated" from things like being the little boy in the swing or a football player making a tackle, or playing "Pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey" or other dizzying experiences that don't include chemicals. It was such an awesome book, and another counselor on our staff introduced the book to me, but since I've been retired now for over 8 years, I can't find him or the book. I am sorry I can't remember it because it is a book about exactly what you speak of, and it spoke of the "rationale", if there is such a thing, of people using drugs and alcohol to get buzzes, and it helped some counselors approach their clients from a unique perspective, but I'm at a loss in remembering the title or author, and I can't find the man who introduced it to me, but I'm telling you this as a way of reinforcing your thinking that there is a "rationale" for people wanting to be intoxicated, all the way from their childhood playground days, such as when they're on the merry-go-round. I'm sorry that my remembrance only goes that far. God Bless you.

You're searching for truth, so I'll be honest with you.
When you're little, you like picking your nose,
eating boogers, scratching your behind
then smelling your finger, but then you grow up.

To understand why someone would NOT want to be drunk,
go around some drunks when you are sober.
They think they are cool, funny, and having fun.
To a sober person they are sadly pathethic.

That's why drunks will always hang with drunks.
They can't stand someone looking at them with sober eyes,
and what kind of sober person wants to be with drunks.
One day, after all of the escaping of reality,
you find you haven't grown, haven't faced up,
but have a bad habit and have lost friends.

Make a list of all those in history
who do anything worthwhile when intoxicated.
Intoxication has ruined many lives,
brought many a good man down --
Their lives and their families.

I got intoxicated to forget reality when I was young.
When a scared, unconfident kid like I was drinks,
he feels big and bold, and somehow, smarter.
The good think about getting intoxicated
is that it's easy -- anyone can do it.

I think I enjoyed getting drunk because I was scared to face the person I was when sober. People get scared, and reach for a drink. Courage in a bottle, or pill. You enjoy not being afraid.

Yep.. As far as I'm concerned. It's the norm. Ever since I raced MX back in the '70s it's been a "search for adrenalin rushes" any way or where. Been commercial fishing for 25 years. Get plenty of them there. In the off season (like now) I drink almost every day. Love it. I don't drive drunk, get angry, sad, just love the escape.
Ever see this bumper sticker?
Reality.. Is for people who can't handle drugs..

I love the feeling of high. It's an escape. It focuses your mind on your physical rather than your mental. It doesen't hurt. It gives you an outlet.

Being high is awesome.

Because the loss of inhibitions is fun and breaks the monotony of reality.
