can someone explain the ending of the movie The Exorcist. Why did the priest jump out the windown and who was the priest at the end and where did the devil go?

The devil went into the priest but he still had the wherewithall to jump out the window.. sending the devil back to hell.. that's what I figure anyway.

Father Karas jumped out of the window after he was possessed, in order to expel the demon.
I always understood it that the demon was expelled from his body before his death because he made the ultimate sacrifice to save Regan (the girl). The demon, was released back into the universe, without claiming Father Karas' soul or that of Regan.
Had Father Karas died while possessed, the demon would have claimed his soul.
The priest who absolved Father Karas was his friend.
No proof for any of this - it's just the way I understood the story.

Damien chose to kill himself, rather than be possesed, the other priest was Damien's school buddy, and the devil took a hike.

To kill himself and take the demon with him.he was first priest's friend and confidant.The demon went to "No place".
