Just got in a car accident last week which was clearly my fault as it was only myself whom was wrecked. I got my license only about 3-months ago which is the sad part and am currently insured under my parents name with Geico. How do you think this will affect me, and will I become uninsured? I got the bill from the autobody and they said it would be about 12k dollars to repair which is what will definitely lead the insurance agent to feel the need to uninsure and obviously raise insurance prices. Anybody know what might be the outcome and if I'll be able to drive for a while??! :( Thanks

Check with Progressive or US Agencies.

Not the best time to switch companies, though. They all know about your driving record, and will take it into account.

One accident will not make you uninsured, unless your parents refuse to pay the high rates, and you are unable to pay them yourself.

I'm a licensed insurance agent in over 40 states. The problem here is you have only had your license for three months and already have a at fault accident. Geico may not drop you but more than likely you will see your rates triple on your next renewal. Your best bet would be to shop for prices to get a idea on how much it would cost you to get your own policy. Your parents might have to sign a exclusion form exluding your from their cars if you go on your own but it may be worth it.

Good luck with this. Insurance companies do not like teens having accidents. If Geico does drop you , look further than just Progressive.. They stuck me with outrageous rates after my wife hit a deer. Go to an independent agent who can shop around for you. Sometimes they know of little-known companies that will cover you for not a whole lot more.

That depends on how much you are willing to pay for insurance. You will probably get dropped by Geico and possibly your parents policy may get cancelled as well for having you on their policy. I would check with Progressive at http://www.progressive.com and see what the rates are for your own policy, but it will be expensive. You may be taking the bus for a few years.

just wait and see what the insurance company offers. they can't do anything until the next renewal, if they plan to cancel then call other companies for rates
