As a young child(about 4th grade) i saw the original "The Exoricst" uncut. I was traumatized and weeks after, i had horrible dreams and couldn't sleep at night. only 2 yrs ago(after about my 15th birthdays) i started watching horror movies again. I've seen some pretty scary movies and i think i'm ready to face my fear. My dad says i should watch it again so i can get over it but others tell me to leave it alone. Should i watch it again or just let the past be the past?

It's been a while since 'The Exorcist' frightened you, it is time to face your fear. The best way to do this is in a controlled environment. Have someone with you when you watch it, preferably someone who won't tease you. Sit near a lamp, so if you get frightened again, you can quickly turn it on. Do not watch it laying down. Sit up, nice and tall - this will make you feel less vulnerable. It will help to watch in when you are eating a meal, so the movie doesn't take all of your attention. Also, during commercials, go into another room, even if for only a minute. Get something to drink, fold clothes, whatever... This will break the movie up into sections. You can probably handle the movie better if you only have to deal with a section at a time. The sooner you face this, the better. Best of luck and Happy Halloween!!

I agree with some of the others. You should face your fears. I'd watch the movie with a good friend who can help you put it in perspective and "remind" you that it's all fake. Sometimes we can get so sucked in to movies that we forget it's just on TV and it's not real. With that way of thinking, you can sit back objectively and think "wow, that's pretty funny" or "I wonder how they did that stunt." I used to have a problem watching the TV show "ER." I found myself wondering how the characters were doing when the show wasn't even on... talk about weird! My friend helped me see what I was doing and I've been ok since then. Good Luck!

Do not watch it again. There is no sense in it. Once this movie causes fear it will cause fear again, like dredging up the past.

I saw the Exorcist too when I was in my 20's and it messed me up for awhile too. There is something wicked about that movie and I honestly believe it. I used to see many horror movies and never had them bother me. But that movie caused nighmares, and reoccuring fear. But I could never put my finger on WHY?
Sometimes it is best to leave things along and move on.

I believe that when they made that movie that the DARK side was very happy. They can manipulate the movie or put fear into it. They are in control of anything DARK and WICKED. These dark souls love when we watch these shows as they get just a tiny piece of us and they love to see fear. Dont watch it again it is truly EVIL.

i never really liked horror movies as a kid, i stopped watching them to prevent nightmares. now as an adult (21) i can watch them and critisize them be cause i can watch them as MOVIES and not get scared. I dont really like horror movies because they're so unrealistic. but i do like the Saw movies. those are freaky.

I'd say go for it. watch it at home where u are comfertable with a good friend or family (sounds like ur dad might be good to watch it with) and maybe with lights on. if u still get scared, pause it frequently so u can remember that is it a movie and not real. you might also want to watch exclusives on the movie that show how they made it. all the behind the scenes might help you also in seeing that it's fake.

good luck

It could go either way. It might scare you again, or you mihgt be ok because you already know what its about and are mature enough to understand hollywood theatrics and special effects.
I know someone since childhood that was scared bad by "Night of the Living Dead" and she is now in college studying to be a mortician. Any connection? maybe.
Personally, I don't think young children should ever watch scary and gory movies, their brains can't yet tell real from fiction.

I think that you should watch the movie again. Personally, I think that since you've gotten use to seeing true scary movies you should try to watch the movie again. And to make yourself feel more comfortable have a family member or close friend watch it with you. Also you should have a pillow to squeeze just in case you get really scared.

first of all remember, all these horror movies are not real. they are designed by art directors and set designers. they just shoot something with lot of props and flash colored lights over it and add stimulating music to which in totality looks like a horror movie. always keep reminding yourself, its only a movie, its only a movie. its not real. my dad always repeated this in my childhood and i used to memorise it to bed so that it movie doesnt haunt me. you a e a big boy now and you can face your fears. if that particular movie still haunts, you can watch it again in a new light. you might find it silly this time. try muting the volume and watch the movie, it will feel like a comedy film. to overcome your fears, you shud take a course in fimmaking. you will know how they design all these scary things and u will infact find it interesting.

Hmm....I'd say leave it alone. I watched the uncut Exorcist three years ago (age 23 then) and I couldn't sleep right, and all of these crazy, scary images were popping in my head. I think it depends on each person...how vivid of an imagination. I still like to freak myself out, but I always end up regretting it!

I'm terrified of spiders, but I know I'm much better off NEVER seeing them. I continue to see them, and yet, I am STILL terrified! Like I said...depends on the person. Maybe start off with something unrealistically scary such as Nightmare on Elm Street...or stupid like Chucky, just to get you prepped?

Hello, if you seriously want to get over being frighten over horror movies then go ahead and watch it. Understand that its just a movie. By the way, ask yourself do you actually LIKE horror movies??? If you don't, then don't waste your time! Watch something that you actually enjoy. Take care.

How hard must that baseball hit you in the head before you see that you answered your question? Stop watching those movies! I too, am a recovering horror movie watcher and my dreams are not pleasant. I'm trying hard not to and I disagree that you should watch it again to get over it. Bad idea. STOP!
