According to Consumer Reports, if you are not using rechargeable batteries in your digital camera (which makes the most economic sense) you should use lithium batteries. You can take up to 600 pictures with a set of lithium batteries. With premium alkalines (Duracell Ultra, Energizer Titanium) you can take about 120. With regular alkalines, you can only take about 80. Even though the lithium batteries are a lot more expensive, they will last a lot longer. Your best bet, however, is to use rechargeable batteries and then keep a set of lithium batteries around for emergency backup. This info is in the November 2006 issue of Consumer Reports

I would never, ever recommend you use ordinary alkaline batteries...because when they are drained, you throw them away, which is a complete waste of money.
Its always better to use NiMh 2500 rechargeables.

However, if you are in a situation where you don't have rechargeables, then probably the best throw aways would be the Energizer e2 Lithium (last up to 7X longer than ordinary alkaline & up to 630 shots).
and the next best in their range is the e2 Titanium.
These type of batteries are expensive, so they're not the type you would use all the time..but ok to have as a backup.

Lot depends upon how many times your are using Flash and keeping your display screen ON for long times. You can take from 36 to 72 depending upon your uses.
