I really like your question. Because this book I read a long time ago 'Mega Memory' taught me to associate something you want to remember with a visual image. For example, I have to remember on 10/31 I need to buy halloween candy. Just associate 10/31 with halloween, candy just picture yourself eating candy and imagining money coming out of your mouth or something to remember you need to buy candy on 10/31.
Another example, February 7th you need to go to the dentist. Since February is the month of Valentines Day think of hearts and lovers, the 7 associate with a dice ( lucky #7) and dentist picture a dentist giving out cards at a casino and you will never forget. I don't even write most small lists, or reminders because I've learned this tip.
3rd example- I have to buy saline solution, can of beens and lettuce. Saline sounds line 'Celine' as in Celine Dion, so think of her, beens maybe think of a hasben in the audience (homeless person) and lettuce picture Celine will 'let' you meet her back stage.
Do you get my tips?
I hope it helps. :)

Depends on what you're trying to memorize. If it's a brief list, for example, take the first letter of every word in the list and turn them into a word.
Ex: I had to buy Wrinkle release, Ink cartridges, Notebooks and Kool Aid.
That spells W.I.N.K. This usually helps me remember stuff.

Ways to memorize is to put it to a song. Sometimes just taking a tune you already know and changing the words to what you need to memorize.

Make a little rhyme or song out of it. Write it down too.
