what are the ranks in the army and what does each symbol look like?

fixin to hit the national guard and want to know as much as i can. they say this is very helpful to know the ranks...

You could look online or you could also try and buy a book like "Winning the Board". It gives you all the branches ranks with pics. It also goes through all the ribbons and medals. I think we bought it new for less than $10. Always a good thing to have.

enlisted soldiers, which are from privates to seargents and majors, have upside-down V's

the officers have different insignias
lieutenants have one vertical bar and captains have two bars
majors have a leaf and colonels have an eagle
generals have star/s, the highest possible being a five star general
