living a normal christian life in which you spend nearly as much money (and time) on yourself and your family as do non-christians on things that aren't absolutely necessary (Sattelite TV, nicer clothes, video games) ............
or do you think it would make u and god happier if you had forgone ALMOST ALL unneccesary material goods in this life so that all that money (and time) you would have saved on that could be used to please god, by either helping your fellowman (poverty, sickness) or perhaps all that extra saved effort could bring maybe 7 or 8 more souls into heaven for eternal, ETERNAL salvation and reward?

Two things
God would be happier with the second
BUT
God blesses those who give. God promises that those who give will receive more blessings. Abraham was rich, Jacob, Isaac.
So was Job. David was a king ( a man after God's own heart) and Solomon was the richest man alive
And their are rich Christians in Acts.
"To much is given, much will be required."

In Matthew 25, Jesus describes those who love others, those who don't and their respective consequences.
While our actions (a.k.a., works) are in fact "filthy rags" before God, and not even a consideration in determining our eternal destination, they are evidence of a life changed by God. So, while we are only able to enter heaven by God's grace, our lives should be changed here such that they deomstrate the effects of that grace(James).
Your goal should be to align what makes you happy with what makes God happy.
It sounds to me like you already know the answer to your question. Prefer others to yourself. Be a servant and Jesus was a servant.

The second. God walked with me thru 4 years of extreme poverty meeting all of my needs to teach me a lot of valuable lessons!! One of them being that material things don't mean a thing and using it on God's Kingdom gives so much more satisfaction!! It does please God when we do this and He honors our efforts! Everything we have is God's, He owns it all and so He should be able to use it!

I think God would be happiest with the Amish.
They live a simple life and work hard for their survival. They keep it simple.
that's what God likes (because he told me of course)
.., simple living, living off the land.
God doesn't like when we start making things complicated, we only destroy, pollute, defile and rape out of greed.
Think about it.

Whoever you believe in should require you to be yourself, whether you are a giving, charitable soul, or whether you merely take care of yourself and your loved ones.
