I'm Protestant... I do not ask this to spark controversy, I just want to know.

It is said in the Bible (by Paul or somebody...) that it is advantageous to be celibate than married, but that marriage is better than burning.

Also that there are those who are privileged with celibacy, who can focus on their ministry rather than worrying about a family.

But I think that those who are monks have sworn themselves into that lifestyle and should not question it. I guess it's a personal decision for a person to marry or not, but isn't it also a personal choice to become a monk?

Luther promised God to become a monk if He would save him from the storm. I believe that he broke this promise when he decided to break his promise of celibacy.

Luther lived at a time when the Church was rife with abuse, and monasteries were often not living up to their own standards. Plus, it didn't help that Luther never felt like he was doing enough as a monk to make God happy. He gave up on monasticism because he realized that he couldn't do anything to make God happy, but that he should instead rely on grace. He began advocating clerical marriage as a part of this reaction against the celibate clerical life, thinking that pastors should live life fully and not be separate from everyone else. He met Katy after he had made this decision to abandon celibacy. After she escaped from a Convent, she decided to marry him, not the other way around!

Paul recommended singleness, yes. However, u can't serve as a monk, nun , ore priest without taking a vow of celibacy . 1 Timothy 4; 1- 3 refutes that practice. The choice should be the person themself in their ability to remain single, not a mandatory rule.
