You'll continue to count them until you decide to start making them count or you die. If you focus on making each day count, you'll be too busy to keep counting them.

It's also a useful exercise to learn another language.
In fact, I would recommend counting your days in Latin, your blessings in German, your sheep in Chinese, and your eggs (all the ones in the basket) in Finnish.
