When I was younger I had buck teeth. As I aged, the gap between my two front teeth closed and my teeth are all nicely aligned. However, my two front teeth are longer than my other upper teeth. It's very obvious and noticable. Kind of resembles beaver teeth. I've heard about filing the teeth down. I wondered if that causes any tooth sensitivity or any problems to the teeth? Any other details would be helpful too.

Some of these comments are quite halarious.. If your teeth are aligned as you say.. Braces, arent your answer! Your teeth are already aligned, thats the whole purpose of braces. So, ignore their answers, their clueless!!

Now, YES you can have them filed down. BUT.. depending on how much needs to be filed if sensitivity will occur. A doctor will only file so much. If there is a major lot of tooth structure that needs to be filed, he will stop at a certain point. If they still look to obvious to you and your not happy at this point. Your best option would be to have them crowned or veneered! This way, they can shave the tooth completely down, and the lab can make you teeth to your liking.

Hope this helps! Go see your local dentist, he'll give you your best options for YOUR specific case.

Often teeth can be filed down...but only to a certain point. You can file them down as long as you stay within the outer enamel layer. If a lot needs to be taken off, them other types of procedures may need to be done. One option is to add bonding to the edges of some of the other teeth to make them appear longer while at the same time filing down the two front ones. Another option is veneering them, either just the front 2 or more depending on color and how much length decrepency there is. Veneering them or crowning them will allow you to remove more tooth structure without making them sensitive. If it was my mouth, I would try the most conservative option (bonding and enamel recontouring); however, without being familiar with your case I can't give you a definate answer. Yes it is possible to get sensitive with filing them down, but usually this will only happen if you file past that enamel layer!

I have a friend who had her two front teeth filed down. You would not beleive how great she looks since the procedure. As far as sensitivity, I have never heard her complain. Getting her front teeth fixed has done wonders for self-esteem. Good Luck!!

The dentist can make the long once a bit shorter and the short once a bit longer. They know their limits.Just find a good cosmetic dentist and ask to see his work if you are too nervous about your front teeth.

Instead of doing this which is bad for the enamel, you can have the surrounding teeth capped with veneers. This would even them up and not take away from your natural teeth. My best friend had this done before her wedding and she is very happy with the results. It is not cheap but looks great and can be done in about an hour.
