maybe because being gay is not accepted as well as not being gay so the need to impress is greater....

It's because they are not mentally or emotionally equipped to deal with the situation. They had their hopes and dreams and expectations laid into the ground. If this was an only son...triple that, because now there are no male heirs to the name. Something like insult to injury.

My in-laws were p!ssed that my parents were divorced, and treated me with such contempt and malice, I could hardly bare it. My husband was of no help either, as he did little, if nothing to defend my honor.

In-laws are usually an annoying, irritating, pain in the *a* *s* *s* when they visit.

And if you don't like them or they don't like you, it's even worse!

Straight, gay, blue, green, dead or alive...in-laws are hard to handle.

The women are usually the worst. Give the guy a drink and food and a TV and he's good.

Yeah it is, but I can't imagine the depths of awkwardness it can get for a gay couple.

You wouldn't be alive today if your parents weren't hetero. Because you are different, things are more difficult. Even though it is politically correct for everyone to accept all those who vary from the norm, it isn't human nature. You chose to be different. You have to deal with it. Norms exist because societies find "comfort zones". By definition, when you step outside these zones, you have conflict.

It's awkward regardless of the couple's orientation.
