I think of the Scarecrow in the Wizzard of Oz!

"If I only had a brain!"

I don't think it says anything. Some people just like crosses and it has nothing to do with their faith.

I spent 40 years in Christianity Baptist( Southern and Missionary) Assembly of God,. UPC, and 25 years in the churches of Christ. I know a lot of people who will not wear one as a religious symbol.

I have seen pictures in soft porn mags and the naked women had crosses on.

I am now pagan and I never wore a cross as a Christian but I now have one on my belt key fob and it is a Celtic cross with a skull in the center. I also wear a pentacle as my religious symbol.

Just the information of the cross around their neck doesn't tell me much. Clues from their overall appearance and behavior will be more telling. It is a Christian symbol, but that doesn't prevent non-Christians from using it in whatever manner they conceive of or find marketed by someone else.

It means they are being a witness about their beliefs in Christ. They are taking up the cross and following Jesus just as Christians are instructed to do.

They might very well be religious. Or not. I've known a couple of non-Christians who wore crosses just because they liked the design. I have a Pagan friend who wore crosses until fairly recently, and she finally gave them all to me in an attempt to be more true to her religious beliefs. Now she wears a sterling pentacle.

it gives me the inclination that they may very well be Christian too, but as was stated above, it seems to just be a thing to follow the status quo nowadays, which is sad, because it is much more than something to show off saying "respect me because i'm wearing a cross around my neck" when it should symbolize faith and how we live our lives.

nothing really, not anymore at least, people wear crosses as a fashionable necklace instead of a representation of their beliefs
some people may be Christians but I stopped jumping to that conclusion. if they are around me i watch their lifestyle, it is much more telling about you than something hanging around your neck

I know it's not a very nice thing to think, but it's generally something along the lines of, Oh, good grief; here's another one. Brainwashed...

I know that's a supreme overgeneralization, but I tend to think it anyway...

That they believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and was raised on the third day from the dead and is the son of God! Also that he sits on the right hand of his Father in heaven.

They are wearing a necklace with a cross.
Nothing more than that.
